Bonnet Chip

It's been about a month now since I received my Mini, but after washing it yesterday I must of been hit by a rock or something. So I guess sooner and not later, my finish wasn't going to look like brand spanking new. The blemmish has a ripple like hail damage, but I have have to have the paint touched up. It's about a Penny size. Any suggestions or recommendations to getting it fixed and protected before I have more rock damage.

Craig

Ummm, you'll get lots of them. Most cars do, actually, but we notice them on new cars more. Particularly if you live in an area where there's lots of construction or road maintenance going on. Get a touch-up kit from your MINI dealer. My hindsight says, I should have had the sales person toss it in as a perk when I ordered my car.

There's the clear guard stuff that you can stick onto your bonnet but that eventually will scuff also.

Paint protection

After you get your chip fixed if you want to protect you car from future chips. The best way I've found is to install an invisible bra, and the best person in St Louis to do that is Mark the ultrashield rep. without paint protection on a Mini it is not will I get more paint chips, it's when will I get more paint chips. You can reach Mark at mark@ultrashieldofstl.com

Even with the clear shield we got a chip on the 05 MCS. It was just above the shield and it was in the first month of ownership. I think there is a rock out there for every new MINI just waiting......

I have paint protection on my front Aero kit, bonnet, and head lights. Yes I have gotten a small chip where the paint protection did not cover. I like to attend track days whenever possible and I would hate to image how many paint chips I would have if not for the invisible bra. It's not perfect but in my opinion it is one of the best ways to protect your Mini's paint.

Get a paint repair kit from your MINI dealer. I bought one for my car. It comes with a brush-on container of your car's color, and another brush-on container of clear coat. I think it cost around 19 dollars.
