St. Louis SCCA Autocross Drivers School
St. Louis SCCA Autocross Drivers School
Greetings,
I'm chairman of the 2006 Novice Autocross Drivers School for the St. Louis Region of the Sports Car Club of America. I thought I'd post some information on our novice autocross school for would be Mini soloists.
The school will be held on Sunday March 26 at Gateway International Raceway. For more information log onto stlsolo.org, the region's website for autocross information. Registration is through myautoevents.com

Bryan,
What do the solo event involve? Is this one car on the track at a time going for the best time, is this an all out driving school with professional drivers as instructors? I went to the web link but I still don't know what exactly this event is going to involve.

Autocross is defined by the SCCA as "Precision Driving". Here is a link to the SCCA National web page for autocross: http://scca.org/Solo/Solo2.asp?IdS=0...1900&x=050|030&~=
In a nutshell autocross is one of the easiest ways to become involved in competitive motorsports and unlike track or club racing there is very little risk to the driver or equipment. Coreses are laid out in large parking lots or airport tarmac. Drivers get a limited number of runs on course (no practice allowed) with the best time counting. each cone hit is a two second penalty.
The nice thing about autocross is that you can compete in just about any car at any level of preparation.
Our school is aimed at the driver interested in performance driving, but has little or no previous experience. It is geared to developing autocross skills, but is also a great starting point if you are interested in track events. In fact many top drivers (Randy Pobst in World Challenge for instance) got started with solo. Our instructor pool is gleaned from the best autocrossers in the St. Louis SCCA, many of them Nationaly competitive, some past National Champions.

The school is getting close to full. We allowed for 26 participants to register on the myautoevents.com web site. I expect to add four sapces and fill them from a waiting list once registration fills.
