Area around MINI dealership?
Area around MINI dealership?
Hi:
I am planning on taking my MINI of the St Louis dealership soon. We are travelling in from out of town and do not know St Louis at all. What kind of area is Clayton? The wife wants to make a night of it, and get a hotel and eat some REAL food (sushi, Thai etc - we live in the cultural wasteland).
So, is there anything nearby- safe hotel, restaurants? Or do we have to bring a 2nd car and head to a 'safer' part of town?
Any advice will help, since we have no idea where anything is, or how easy it is to get around STL.
Thanks.

Clayton is one of the nicest parts of town. There are lots of great places to eat and lots of nice hotels. I would say that you couldn't find a safer part of STL if you tried. You should have no reservations about staying at a hotel there and then just walking to dinner, if you can stand the cold. PM me if you need more info.

I feel qualified to answer this question, my office has been in Clayton for 6 years now. Like Aaron said, Clayton is a very safe, upscale part of the St. Louis area - tons and tons of good restaurants, most within a few blocks walk of each other.
Depending upon your budget, I would recommend you stay at "Clayton on the Park" - http://www.claytononthepark.com/ -- they are just a few blocks from the MINI dealer and have a really nice hotel. Another bonus is that they have a "London Cab" which will drive you all over the area for free, which would be nice in this weather.
There are so many good restaurants that it's hard to make a recommendation, but I will anyway. If you want something fairly traditional, I would recommend "Pomme" - http://www.pommerestaurant.com/ - awesome food, good service, reservations would be a must.
If you're looking for more "culture", I would recommend "Barcelona" - http://barcelonatapas.com/ - for Tapas - the food there is fantastic, and you can sample lots of different things. Depending upon the night you're there, it can be quite a party too.
Good luck, you probably can't go too far wrong no matter where you end up going.

Thankd for the great information guys. I checked out that Clayton On The Park, but it IS a bit pricey, although it looks worth it. I could even get a free cab ride to the dealership! This is good to know.
I appreciate it.
I appreciate it.
there are quite a few other hotels in clayton that are "reasonable."
anything in clayon is going to be nice.
as far as sushi is concerned, the best is about 4 miles away in the central west end. it's called Cha Yoon. Within Clayton... your best bet is Miso.
