While it's sad to see Busch stadium go, I have to admit that the newer purpose-built ballparks are so much nicer than the generic 70's era multi-purpose facilities.

I checked out the photos of the new stadium and I think the city will really embrace it. However, nothing will ever beat the "friendly confines" of Wrigley.

Yes, indimini, you are right & the new Busch is going to be beautiful. But I was reading an article in our local paper this morning about why some of us who grew up in St Louis are sad to see the old park come down. It's not just the fact that the concrete is coming down but the fact that the concrete holds so many memories for us. For me it was first dates, taking my son to his 1st game when he was a toddler, or when I took my Mom who grew up in St Louis but had never been to a World Series game to the 7th game of the '82 World Series. So these are my thoughts

But why did you have to mention Wrigley Ouch, the dreaded Cubbies

I do feel for you - when a building becomes so much more than just a physical structure it is hard to see it go. When I lived in St. Louis, I had the opportunity to go to several games, but I didn't have quite the attachment as if I grew up with the stadium.

Now, you can't feel too bad about me bringing up the Cubs - it seems for my lifetime (40+ years) St. Louis has always gotten the better end of that battle. So we may not have a World Series, but I have the Ivy covered walls to remind me of my youth.

I grew up outside of Seattle and went to the Kingdom several times. It was sad when they blew it up. It was ahead of it's time as a self supporting concrete structure.
