Help Buying a Mini

Hello, I have been in love with these cars since 2002, however have not had the money to buy one. I now am looking to purchase one, and have plans to go look at 2 tomorrow night. They are both 2004 models, one being a S with 68,000 miles and the other the base model with 92k. Is there anything that I should look for as far as reasons NOT to buy either of these cars? Also besides the obvious questions, anything I should ask in paticular?

I live in st. louis for thoes wondering, or if the weather here might play a role in any answers.

Thanks,
Matt.

Here is an interesting read that might answer some of your questions.

Both manual transmission hopefully. Do not consider a CVT transmission!

The '05 model had some significant improvements, but maybe out of your price; the '04 are year by year improved in reliability over the '02.
The S will be less economical on gas. Both are fun to drive - arguably the non-S can be more fun since it requires extra driving effort to get the best out of the lower engine power.

If either has the H/K upgraded stereo, consider that while it sounds better, the H/K amp has failed for many people.

cool, thanks. yes they are both manual, and the S does have the stero upgrade. I am pretty well educated when it comes to stero eqpt. so if in fact the amp becomes a problem, its something i can prob tackle on my own. thanks for the heads up though.

Motoring File Link

The motoring file link shown above, pretty much covers it all. My best advice is after you buy the car is to join the St. Louis Mini Club and join in on the fun. Good luck and hope our paths cross soon.

I have a 2004 Cooper with 92,000 miles on it and has been 99.99% trouble free. Hope your buy happens.
