2008 Fall Rallye
If it's a nice day
I was thinking about driving straight to the winery from home and meeting everyone there, but by looking at the map there doesn't seem to be any way to get across the river
. Does anyone know if there is a bridge off of Route 3 on the Illinois side into Cape Girardeau? Google is showing me to go all the way to Sikeston and then North.

We will be crossing I55 just south of Cape Girardeau if you want to meet us for the last few miles of the run to the winery.
If you don't want to drive down Rt 3 all the way, you can take I57 (I know, boring!) to Exit 30 Hwy 146, go through Anna-Jonesboro and come out on Rt 3 at Ware, IL. Take Rt 3 south to where 146 goes west to East Cape Girardeau and then crosses the river.
Lois was right about the approximate arrival time of between 1 and 2pm.

I know that area faily well as I used to do bank audits in So. Illinois, So I figure if I leave home around 10am I should make it to Cape around 1pm

You guys are missing the best route!!
Jump on the bluff road in Columbia, and take that down through Valmeyer, Prarie Du Rocher and into Modoc. From Modoc, you jump on the Ferry which takes you right into St. Gen!
It is a beautiful ride this time of year, along the bluffs. Much better road also! That is if you are just trying to get back across the river down that neck of the woods!

I may try to get off that day!

Wish I could come!!!
We just got home from a final test run of the Rallye route. It has been several months since we ran the whole thing and we found a surprise or two.
Actually, nothing major, just some construction that we thought was going to be a big problem but I think things will be fine. We were driving through it at the busiest time of the day, so Saturday shouldn't be as bad.
We are also glad to say that the leaves are turning on the route. There are some nice colors now, and we think there will be more color on Saturday.
We spoke with the owners of RiverRidge Winery and they have scheduled some live music, which was a surprise as they had said previously that last weekend was the last live entertainment they had scheduled for this year. We have also learned that they're introducing several (either 5 or 6) new wines on Saturday! They're looking forward to our visit, and mentioned having an area set aside for us to sit as a group when we arrive. We grabbed some menus from the restaurant and will have copies for everyone included with the directions for the Rallye.
We look forward to seeing everyone and having a great day of motoring!

Sorry to let everyone know, but us and Bowser won't be making it. Bowser is now nursing a bad CV axle at Bimmers and won't be ready until late Monday. Which is a shame, because everyone knows how I like a good spirited fall Rallye.
I will take this moment to say that I will be more than happy to host a Spring Rallye in Mid-April. Whoever is the club events coordinator, drop me a note with when might be best; and I'll set up an event to match my Rallyes when Drew (my son) was riding in a pumpkin seat (he's 4 now).

Thanks for that Southern Missouir Hospitality
Mike and Jene, you really showed everyone a great time, oh what a ride it was. The roads were great, the weather was fantastic, the winery was a perfect place to end the route. But most of all it was spending the day with MINI people, life is good.
P.S. Any one interested in the luggage, the sooner I get 10 orders, the sooner I can get the order in............thanks.

Thanks to Jene and Michael for planing a great day. We stayed in the area last night and went over to Carbondale and visited our niece at SIUC today. Went to Giant City State Park Lodge and had lunch and drove some of the local roads around there. The fall colors were just fabulous. Till we motor again, Dan
