Oil Change Question
Oil Change Question
Just me again.
When I bought my MINI used, I didn't know about the once-a-year oil change thing. Well, I don't think the Toyota dealership did either (or they acted like they didn't know) and they sold me the oil change package for every 5,000 miles with a 22-point inspection for the next however many oil changes. And payment for this oil change package is built into my car payment.
So this is my question - do I just go ahead and pay for it and get my oil changed every 5K, or do I ask for my money back and get the package taken off? I dunno. Opinions, anyone?

Your MINI needs 100% synthetic oil. The MINI oil (Castrol Syntec) isn't really full synthetic, so use Amsoil, Mobil 1, etc. in 5w-30. Everyone has their opinion on the oil change interval. I change mine every 5-7k. The 3000 mile oil change is an American marketing tool, in Europe, most cars on regular oil go 5k or more between changes, unless they are in really dirty environments. Do the environment a favor and change at 5-7k.
I just got off the Castrol site and they say their Syntec is full synthetic. The syn-blend is a mixture oil base and synthetic. I've used the 5W/30 for 5 years now and no problems at 5K intervals. I have 5 qts. Royal Purple for the next fill, only because AutoZone was out of Castrol.
