brake service recommendations

Hey everyone, I am located in Laguna Hills and am asking my fellow SoCal Mini Motorists for recomendations for getting a brake service.

I dont have enough experience to replace the brake pads myself and am willing to travel down to san diego, or even los angeles.

Please let me know, i am basically looking for a great deal on the price, quality/friendly service and a trustworthy staff. Thanks in advance!!

Also, can you please give me some price ranges on what to expect so i can stay away from overpriced services. Thanks again!!

I live in Lake Forest. I didn't think I could do my pads until I had help from here and two good friends! It's really not that difficult. It took about 2 hours to do front and rear. If you can get your hands on the special tool...its a breeze!

This is the write up I used. I simply printed it out, made sure I had all the necessary tools before hand and got to work! If you're interested in doing it yourself and want help, I'm sure we can work something out

Rethink DIY....

brakes are all pretty much the same. It's an easy job, doable with hand tools. Even for someone with little experience, it's less than an afternoon to do the job. If you know that you will need to do the job shortly, as opposed to hearing grinding, then you can choose an unhurried day when a buddy can show you the ropes. Then all you pay for is the pads, and some fluid if you choose to bleed the brakes in put in fresh fluid (not required, but a good idea).

If you have to do the rears as well, there is one tool you need to compress the piston (it needs to twist while it retracts for the parking brake mechanism). A full tool set for this is available from Harbor Frieght for $20....

Pads can be cheap to very expensive, depending on what you are looking for. But whatever pads you choose, if you learn how to do a basic brake job, figure that you'll save $75 to $150 each and every time you do brakes..... For all the cars in your family.

Thats a good point! I called around just to see how much it would be to have someone do my brakes. Both the dealer and a brake shop wanted about $200 for front and rear!

Thanks for all the advice. I have considered doing them myself, since i have a couple friends who are experienced on that level. Just wanted to see other options. Thanks a bunch!
