Anyone in OC with an engine damper? Can i ride along?

Greetings!

One purchase that i'm thinking about purchasing is an engine damper, from what i've heard it could solve some of the "release-gas-pedal and lurch-lurch-lurch" feeling i've been getting while driving. But before I buy and install i'd like to experience the effects first hand.

Is there anyone in the OC area that has this mod and is willing to give me a ride along? I'm planning to go to the next auto-x @ calif speedway on the 13th, then the OC meet on the 14th and hopefully i'll have a chance this weekend.

Cheers,

Which engine dampner are you thinking of?

Come to Ruby's in Long Beach this Satuday and there will be a couple of SCMM'ers who have engine dampners in their MINIs. Check out this thread: https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...ad.php?t=88528

I bought one of Shoe's and never had the chance to put it on my previous MCS. Since it is painted silver, I am not sure if I am going to put it in my Chili Red JCW.

In regards to the lurch you're experiencing....is your MINI stock (no pulley, CAI or ECU upgrade)?

Hmm... won't be able to make ruby's since i'll be on the way to Fontana that morning.

And yes, my car is completely stock since the day i've gotten it.

To be a little more specific about the lurch it'll show up like this:

Get into first gear, drive up till 3500 rpm, then release the gas pedal abruptly. What follows is the car becoming unsettled and lurching back and forth about 3-4 times.

This, along with some rattling noise (heatshield? Flywheel?) during low rpm pulling, such as 2nd gear parking lot and 3rd gear slow streets (less than 20mph) has led me to schedule an appt at south bay just for a checkup.

So far i know of Shoe's and TXwerks engine dampers, itsa tossup~
