Bad Dyno day experience...
I want to thank Miniraider for holding the Mini Dyno Day. I hope to do it again someday. But I did have a bad experience there. Some people there were doing some Richard Lin bashing. I am a friend of Richards and the things that you guys were saying are not true. Richard is a great guy and does more for charities and other Mini owners then all of us combined and he doesn't ask for anything in return and he doesn't push his products on us. We are all lovers of the Mini Cooper and the last thing we should be doing is bashing each other. For that reason I will not mention names, but because of this I will not be joining SCMM! You only get one chance to make a good impression. And I didn't get a good impression.
See ya,

Thanks Bill. I was thinking that was the case, but then I saw the Shawn's stock MCS that said 163.8, and if using those same numbers,(163.8*1.12) it would be pushing 188hp stock?? That didn't seem right either.
CynMini--You're a good friend. I'm proud to have you both as a friend and member of c3. Your attitude is definitely a reflection of the kind of people that makes up our club.
It's too bad that it had to go the way it did. I wonder if they would have had the guts to say those things in my face had I been there, as originally planned before the date change.
It's also too bad that I thought pretty decently of the 3 other SCMMers on the Dyno list that I personally know--I don't know the others, and they sure as heck don't know me.
Richard

Had a great time at the dyno day event. Many thanks to MiniRaider for organizing the whole shebang. This was my first time on a dyno and although I was initially disappointed in the results (a fairly common occurence I think) I did learn a lot about measuring performance and its limitations/variations.
It was great to hear and watch all the combinations of aftermarket upgrades and I learned that the "red" car really does like high octane fuel to run its best.

Hey Richard, I'm not sure what comments Shawn is referring to, but I just want to clarify that I had no part in it.
I was standing there when some people mentioned a few things, which was a surprise to me, because I too know that you're a good guy.
Shawn, you will get ALOT of stuff like this in the MINI community, unfortunately.
The way I handle it is by trying not to take sides and let everyone have their opinions.
It's very unfortunate, but thats people for you.

Hey Matt,
Thanks for the clarification. I never suspected you would have any part of it.
While you guys were dynoing, we did 5 Super Blue brake flushes and Stainless Steel Brakelines at c3 HQ--and just made it in time for a MINI bbq later that afternoon!
I plan to attend the next Dyno day, scheduling permitted.
Richard

I am shocked to hear your report, I guess I was too busy helping (watching) Peter work on my car to have heard the conversations. I don't believe in that type of activity and would have spoken up if I had heard it. I think Richard does great things with his club and personal differences should be just that, not public discussion.
I was personally sorry to see Richard leave the club, but sometimes you can't stop the behavior of others.
Please don't think this behavior is representative of the majority of the SCMM club members, after all there are 400+ of us, so please don't judge us all by the actions of a few.
We would be happy to have you as a club member and I believe you would enjoy the activities we have throughout the year, mostly just motoring and talking MINIs.
Bill
I AM glad that every one had fun and enjoyed the dyno day..
CYN MINI i am sorry to hear that people where saying negative remarks about some one....(C3)

Actually c3 isn't a person, it's a club.
He was talking about me, Richard Lin, aka OctaneGuy. I had signed up for the dyno day before it got changed to the new date.

In my original graphs you will see they are SAE corrected. I don't know where his numbers come from.
Randy Webb says he only specifies uncorrected data. All his numbers are uncorrected.
In the case of these runs the difference between corrected and uncorrected was less than 1 hp.
If you look at the original charts the 202.94 is SAE corrected. The number is a bit larger uncorrected.
Go back and look at the original charts.

That's pretty impressive for a Stock MCS. Add a pulley and you'll easily break 200 HP. I wonder why your MCS has so much power in stock form?
Something seems fishy. Also strange that everyone is strangely silent--no one knows the answer?

I was at the Dyno Day, nice meeting everyone.
Saw that really high number for the Stock '05 MCS, very nice. Dunno if it was a typo or if they'd already done the correction for the drive train loss. If it's Wheel HP though, some owner is stoked, free HP's are SWEET!!
Odd that human nature causes folks to get clique-ish, even as adults. Definitely saw a couple of factions out there, whatever...I'm just there for fun and to drive.
Side note: Who gives a rat's buttock who's faster/stronger than who, it's not like we're pros getting paid to create a faster car or something like that. Also, as many have pointed out, it's not the total HP you put down that's the factor but the skill by which you push the hunk of metal around the turns/track/road.
There is a tendency for folks to get competitive about their hobbies, this is natural. After all, if you've sunk a bunch of $$ and energy into your approach to mods, you kinda get backed into a corner and will feel the need defend your decisions at all costs. No one likes to think they made a bad/lame decision, and the usual way to defend is try to convince everyone else to see your religion, right or wrong. Fine evalganize if you want to, but let's do try to stay civilized/polite.
If someone want's to push the envelope by tweaking their engines/equipment their way, good for them. If someone just likes to drive around, even better. Let's quit all the silly competitive posturing and get on with some friendly Motoring. This is a hobby, most of us are amateurs.
Rant over.

Thanks to RECOOP, I have test data for seven of the cars that ran.
I calculated torque from the change in speed over the change in time. The numbers are a bit off (+/- 2 lb-ft or so) from what the dyno showed due to smooth, rounding, and sample rates, but the finishing order should be the same:
1 Bob Nigbor 183.3 lb-ft (181.8 peak whp)
2 Mike Leggit 163.3 lb-ft (191.6 peak whp)
3 Tamoosh 161.6 lb-ft (179.8 peak whp)
4 Dave Chen 157.6 lb-ft (169.4 peak whp)
5 Cosworth 157.2 lb-ft (201.8 peak whp)
6 Jason Partin 148.6 lb-ft (168.5 peak whp)
7 Robert Works 148.5 (171.7 peak whp)
Does that match up with the printouts that you guys have? Thanks.

Correct, the only data I have is the seven cars listed. Here's the data from the fastest run from each car for those who want to do crunching. Some of the cars were run with different combinations of items to be logged, hence the reason why some cars have blank columns:
