MCLeonard is steering you in the right direction.

If you can find a spare morning in your schedule (say 8 am to Noon), I could give you directions for a greatest hits of San Diego mountain roads. It would be about 120-150 miles total from La Jolla (I think). PM me if you can take advantage of it.

Hmm, sounds interesting!! I'll have to get back to you on that cause I'm not sure if the family has a full schedule planned.

Thanks.

San Diego roads

Another good 'in-town' road is the road down (and up) to the tide pools at the end of Point Loma. You'll have to pay the vistor's fee to get into the Cabrillo National Monument where this is located, but the advantage is this is a great place to visit with the family. And the money goes to a good cause, keeping the park open. I always buy annual passes.

Plus the cruise along the spine of Pt. Loma out to there has some the best views in the city.

Why!?

I'd just like to say I agree with 911Fan and RallyMini: Don't ask, don't tell. Like the Mini Slogan says: Get lost. You never know what you'll find.

Tuna Canyon in Malibu is the best. Starts at the top of the mountain and goes all the way down to the PCH. Best thing is, for the majority of it, its one way...downhill! Perfect!!

I like to take the back road from the Pachanga Reservation over to the Pala Reservation. It starts in Temecula and goes through some winding roads and elevation changes and ends up at the Pala casino. I do this run during my lunch break from work about twice a week...good therapy sessions.
