Best SoCal Tires
Best SoCal Tires
Hi,
I just took ownership of an 05 MCS JCW and am new to the forum. I'm looking to put new tires on it within the next 4K miles. However, being from Michigan originally, I'm not sure the best tire for CA (San Diego). I drive approx 90hwy miles/day and want something that has good ride quality, but will also last longer than three weeks with the mileage I put on.
I'm thinking about trashing the runflats, but looking for your input.
Also, where should I get tires locally (North County San Diego or Irvine)?
Thanks in advance.

Hi, welcome and congrats. FYI I live in Oceanside. There are alot of us Mini owners in N. County.
There are a million threads on Tyres here at this forum and at www.clubscmm.com (Southern Calif Mini Maniacs). Are you on Run fltas and do you want run flats again?
If you are on Runflats, I would get rid of them. Save the $$$ and get alot better ride quality with better performance.
If not, I think you should check out Yokohama, Toyo, Bf Good and Goodyear. Feel free to email me if you want more details. I too drive alot and I went to discount tire becasue of the warranty and since I dont have a spare I can always find a Discount somewhere near by if I get a nail or something. Same goes for Big O. You can also buy on line at www.tirerack.com and they can have the tyres sent to a Big O for install. they are good at recom. tyres. I am sure they will pipe in here.

these're the tires i'd recommend for soCal
-general exclaim uhp's: just got a new set on my car, a bit soft, rides well, and supposedly durable and handles well, too, and cheap, and good in the rain
-yoko avs es100: long been my *dream tire* 'cuz they're inexpensive, look great, and very high performance for the price
-bridgestone potenza re750: used to be on my car, these were great, loved 'em, expensive
-kumho ecsta asx: heard good things about these but exclaim uhp's are just as good and a bit cheaper
you really don't need all season tires here. get 'em from tire rack, it's usually cheaper

I have the Goodyear Eagle F1's... I have nothing bad to say about them. They handle well and take the rain like a champ. I was able to do normal speeds on the freeway during the last rain, and had no traction issues at all.

They're great. They recently put on my Eagle F-1 DS3s. They're pretty competitive. Call them and ask for pricing pricing on tires that you like. I called up Just For Tyres, Good Year, Sears, and American Discount Tires, all were higher than Tucker Tires. Before Tucker Tires, I purchased my wheels and tires from Tire Rack - pricing is comparable if you consider the shipping costs.
Across the way is DAI Motorsports - you can get your MINI serviced there too.
