I will probably take the 405/105/605/91/60/10 route. I take that route (to 91) to visit Dad in Riverside...cuts a lot of time off the trip, for sure!

LOL! Well, there's no guarantee of seeing the meteor showers, but sunrise in the desert is worth staying sober for, Lauren!

Just my thoughts
Meeting at 2 sounds fine to me. That would push my departure time back to Midnight or a little earlier. I think A&W may be open 24 hours, so I may get a baby burger and a rootbeer float!

So is that the A&W right by Margos Casino?
I may have to try and make it since I'm about 20 mins from there anyway.

It's just east of Hadley's and by one of the Casinos, yes.

Everyone that has FRS radios, bring them on this Desert Run. I recommend that we set them at the usual MINI channel: 7:21.

where to meet up for LA proper residents

so i've been racking my brain for a well lit spot with good parking and hopefully some coffee shop or something...

Denny's off of the 101 behind Union Station
or
Winchell's off of the 5 in Silver Lake

i just put those out there since theyre somewhat central, nearby freeways and along the path of our route.

suggestions are welcome

I'm in...and also, I suggest that we bring binoculars!! And cameras! And please..... be sober and wide-awake!

As for Angeles Crest -- I think there will be too much ambient light from the L.A. basin, which will obscure the chance of seeing any meteors.

Well what do you think about meeting at the gas station in azusa (get of on azusa ave. and it right there next to the 210 freeway on azusa ave and E 1st st.)

We could meet there like 12:30 and head out to A&W and meet everyone else

I would like meet up wih you guys but you need to let me know what gas station (if you guys don't mind). My brother wants to come along since his forum never does interesting stuff like this (2002 Toyota MR2 Spyder... Yeah we have got a big sibling rivalry going on) Let me know the details. I really want head out and meet everyone as it would be my first meet. Just let me know the address so I can punch it into the nav.

I am not sure about the exact adress but it right off the 210 , if you take the 210 east towards pasadena and exit azusa in azusa you would have to make a left, go under the bridge and there is a chevron gas station. Where you exactly ? Maybe we can drive up there together, Glen and I are around glendale/echo park so let us know. We do not mind your brother coming at all , aint even gotte ask .

Hi, Jon! Please join us and bring your bro! Here's the 2 AM meeting point, [not the one in Azusa at Azusa Avenue & E. 1st Street], that Glen & Rob mentioned:

A&W
49030 Seminole Drive
Cabazon, CA 92230

This meeting point is about 11 miles from Hwy. 62, which we take to Joshua Tree off of I-10. It's about 40 miles from the A&W to Joshua Tree, or about 45 minutes.

If you have them, bring your FRS radio(s) set on 7:21.

Montebello (between East LA and Whittier). I thought I would be able to take the 60E since it's the closest FWY near my house. 60/605/210

MINIclo = Sorry No Radio .

Is it "Milad Chevron"? I was wondering where it was so I used mapquest. Corner of Azusa and 1st.

I'm broke til next week . If I had the spare cash I would have ordered my SSK anyway.

Sam's Club, WalMart, Costco...usually have good deals on the FRS radios. I've bought a set of two Motorolas, including the recharge cradle, for about $40. Let PriceGrabber.com or google do the shopping for you!

Edit: I have to find my radios...I'll charge 'em up and bring 2, so someone can use the extra until we get to Joshua Tree.
