New Laws starting 7/1/07 - FYI

I haven't seen this posted anywhere - just in case you may not have heard or read yet, but on 7/1/07 some new laws go into affect with some PRETTY STEEP fines....

Seems to be an Urban Legend going around...

New California Laws effective 7/1/07
New Driving Fines for 2007

1. Carpool lane - 1st time $1068.50 starting 7/1/07 (The $271 posted
on the highway is old). Don't do it again because 2nd time is going
to be double. 3rd time triple, and 4th time license suspended.

2. Incorrect lane change - $380. Don't cross the lane on solid lines
or intersections.

3. Block intersection - $485

4. Driving on the shoulder - $450

5. Cell phone use in the construction zone. - Double fine as of
07/01/07.
Cell phone use must be "hands free" while driving.

6. Passengers over 18 not in their seatbelts - both passengers and
drivers get tickets .

7. Speeders can only drive 3 miles above the limit. (no more 10% of
posted speed limit grace)

8. DUI = JAIL (Stays on your driving record for 10 years!)

9. As of 07/01/07 cell phone use must be "hands free" while driving.
Ticket is $285. They will be looking for this like crazy - easy money
for police department.

These fines just might - maybe - make some of those idiots out on the roads, think twice when they do something stupid. Not saying I agree or disagree with these, I'm just passing along the info.

Donna, where'd you get this info?
I'm pretty sure the hands free law goes into effect July 2008, and it's a $20, then $50 fine.
See this.

...And also, what is important is that this law will go into effect on July 1 of 2008. There will be a $20 fine if you’re caught the first time using a cell phone, and then $50 after that...
I wonder if the other claims aren't erroneous as well...

I have a friend in So Cal that was pulled over for talking on his cell phone while driving and was given a warning. He said to the cop that the law dosn't begin to 2008 but he said it is already in effect and they are inforcing this law now with 1st warnings. I don't know whats true or not.

There are already laws on the books for distracted driving. Just nothing specific about cell phones until July 2008. Sometimes cops blow smoke, too.
