New Arizona Mini Club, MINI CLUB ARIZONA
I truly hope you guys find what your looking for in your new club, and I hope your club grows strong with dedicated enthusiasts that want to get the most out of their Mini experiance, and not just a gang of people sitting around trash talking other clubs as some seem to be doing in this thread.
Louie,
You seem like a nice guy, let me explain something to you:
I posted an anouncement on the DMC forum (which I am a member of)
to let the DMC members know first hand what I was going to do,
which is starting a new mini club in town.
(this is by the way, what my customers have been asking me to do for the past 2 years).
I wanted them to hear from the source, and to let them know that I was in no way trying to take members away from their club (DMC).
This was just an announcement, not a solicitation, or an opening for a discussion, I certainly do not need anyones aproval.
Therefore, i believe that there is no need for me to reply to any comment on the DMC post.
Everyone is entitled to their position, and I respect their opinion.
However let me tell you this, very few DMC members have given us their business or the oportunity to quote an item for them. Even the ones who have taken advantage of some of our special prices, have failed to give us any credit or praise.
All I have heard is how I should kiss the *** of the DMC members for suporting my business, well let me again point this out, the percentage of my DMC business is less than 1% of my total sales.
There are 4000 minis in the state, I am certainly not going to waste my time on some members of a club that represents 2% of the mini population, and whos members believe they are the voice of all mini owners in town.
Hope this few words will bring you a better perspective.
Victor

I tried three times to get a quote and buy items from you. I got no response two of the three times and the thrid I had to call you back to be told sorry don't carry it and can't get it. I didn't feel like you wanted my business, but anyway. Just letting you know.
Good Luck with the new club. I will see you at the track events.

I've tried to stay out of this, because I agree there is room for another club, but your statement above just isn't completely true.
When I was a DMC member I personally tried to give you my business on a couple of occasions.
When shopping for my Brembo BBK I contacted you to ask if you could match the price of another vendor. I was even willing to pay AZ sales tax if you could match the price just to support a local vendor, but all you did was bash the other vendor and tell me there was no way I'd ever receive the kit for the price I was quoted. Guess what? They're on my car for the price the other vendor quoted and there was no drama.
On another occasion I drove all the way up to Scottsdale (a 1 1/2 hour drive) for you're "Weekend Only Sale" only to find locked doors during your posted open hours. I called the phone number on the door and got your voice mail ... by time you returned my call I was half way back to Tucson. You said you decided to close early since it was slow.
I don't know, maybe I was just unlucky but you can't say I didn't try and support your business.
Anyway, good luck with the club. It would be really nice to have a Mini club in AZ without a bunch of drama and a lot of good runs.
Good luck with your new club! We started our club in October, 2004 in an area that already had two "dues charging" clubs. We have never charged any dues or sold raffle tickets to our members, although we gladly accept donations from the active members if and when they see fit.
We have no elected board or committee set up to spend our funds.
We now have almost 300 member cars and the club financially is in the black. It can and does work without dues when you have a strong core of active members and you offer the members services or runs that the other clubs don't.
I wish you all the success you deserve, because running a new club is like a second full-time job. Again, the best of luck to you and your core members.
Ohh... and people can and do join multiple clubs. I would guess that 50% of our active members belong to at least two of the area's clubs. Different clubs have different styles and serve different needs. In the end, you should all be able to get along together and share runs and regional events.
