Why isn't this site remembering what I've read?

For the past few days when I return to this site, threads that are days old with no recent activity are showing as new to me, when I know I've read them.

Is there something wrong with the site, or do I need to reset something in my profile?

Are you sure you haven't changed the cookies settings in your browser?

If you reset your "history" file in your browser, all sites forget which links you've visited. Might that be your reason?

Nope, haven't changed cookie settings or cleared history.

I was under the impression that for this forum software, my viewing history was kept on the server, not in my cookies. The only reason I thought this is because I access this site from both home and work and up to a few days ago it seemed to remember what I'd read from either place...

I believe what you have been seeing (the site remembering what you've read) is actually a side-effect of browser behavior. The current software the site uses doesn't explicitly remember this type of information. That said, I have been working out the details of migration to a new system that will offer this capability along with a lot of other features people have been asking for. Unfortunately this migration is very tricky so I want to take the time to get it figured out before upgrading the site. Stay tuned!
