Guidelines need revision...

OK, I think the site guidelines need to be revised...
LEGAL
Posts relating to street racing, excessive speeding, or violations of other laws are prohibited. If you want to race, take it to a legal venue.
IMHO the guidelines should be amended to add:

SPEED
Posts relating to any speed in excess of 55mph will be locked and deleted regardless of any legal issues contain therein.

After all, that's what's happening, isn't it? The latest "Top Speed" thread in the R56 General forum (at least as of 1400 when I last looked) had 2 comments from folks in the US referencing speeding. References (such as my own) to speeds in excess of 100 mph that occured on unrestricted stretches of German autobahn were PERFECTLY LEGAL (Road/weather/traffic conditions notwithstanding) If Guideline #5 is to be so strictly adhered to, then how is it that this thread:
https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...ad.php?t=47304
remains? After all, double parking is a violation of parking laws is it not?

Naturally, I can't see the post so there's no way for me to know that the whole thing didn't turn into a big flame war but as of the last time I looked (1400 again) the only "Questionable" content referred to someone doing 130mph on the way to Vegas. But other than that, what purpose did removing the thread serve??

Please, enlighten me.

Your comparing a parking ticket to illegal speeds way above the threshold for a Reckless Driving charge? Dont you think your being a bit unreasonable

IMHO, the mods do an excellent job in drawing the line between a bit of speeding most everyone does to the verboten area of reckless driving (which, BTW, is 80 MPH in VA!)

Instead of coming on here and complaining about the guidelines, how about reporting a post.

The moderation here is human, not electronic. Sometimes we have to rely on members like yourself to report posts so that they are brought to our attention. We can't read every thread and every post.

High speeds attained in a legal venue, including racetracks and the Autobahn, are not the issue here.

In future, please use the report a post icon ( )what you are not happy with - that may include a moderator's post if you feel they are too heavy handed or not in line with the spirit of the guidelines.

That's just it, I'm not "Complaining". I'm simply providing feedback. I feel that the way certain things get moderated are not in line with the posted guidelines. I therefore suggested a solution. I'm frustrated, but am not trying to start anything. I simple feel that the way threads are moderated in the name of Guideline #5 do not go along with the Guideline as written.

As for the "Report Post" button, I believe that the intent of that method is in order to report posts of a more serious nature, i.e. personal attacks, etc.

High speeds attained in a legal venue, including racetracks and the Autobahn, are not the issue here.
Then would someone care to explain why the thread was deleted? I know for a fact that I never mentioned any illegal action

Thanks

OK - I disagree, overall. The guidelines says "excessive" speeding, not simply exceeding 55. That doesn't mean that heavy-handed moderation has never occurred. We are human, but we are generally reasonable people.

Nope, it can be used for any reason at all that you wish to report a post. Post reports are only viewable by moderators - the author of the post being reported is not informed. That button can be used for something as simple as a post made in the wrong forum (say... a specifically R56-related thread that was made in a R53 forum by mistake). Don't be afraid to use it, if you think we need to look at something!

I don't know why yet, I didn't move it. I'm looking through the thread now. It's under review.

Dude, once again, I don't want to start a big to-do. I've seen threads disappear that were in blatant disregard of rule 5. This one didn't seem to be one of them. This is my personal view of course, but why else are we here other than to share personal views/experiences

As for:
The guidelines says "excessive" speeding, not simply exceeding 55.
55 was just used as an example. And I also understand that "Excessive" is a subjective thing and that the Mods are the ones who NEED to make such determinations.

OK, I'll still have to confer with the other mods (esp. the person that moved it to under review), but I suspect what happened is that the thread required a LOT of babysitting. After all, in the 25 posts made in it, there were multiple instances of very high speeds stated without qualification of the autobahn or racetrack, including from a number of people located here in the USA. It wasn't a case of just one post (although one was more blatant than the others), it probably started to become difficult to monitor. Even the linked videos are uncertain, with some confusion as to whether they were competely legal or not (not all of the video was on the German autobahn).

Anyway, it's still under review. It hasn't been black holed yet, so it's possible it might come back (likely with more edits, if so).

OK, I understand that. And I'm not lobbying for the thread's reinstatement so much as for more... I don't know how to put it which is probably half of my problem. I DID forget about that 130mph video. If it was indeed taken on a Bundesstrasse then that's WAY over the top. The "Unrestricted" limit on B-Roads to 100kph (62mph). Although it brings to mind the question of... would the video be unacceptable to reference if qualified by a "What NOT to do" comment?

Thx again
