polls

would it be possible to have "polls" on the NAM site - as an example

Header poll - which one are you running? and there is a list of header makes, the Nam member clicks the make he has and we get to see % results. Some sexy bar gragh would be cool.

it would be really neat to see the trends on vitually all mods - intakes, pulley, header, ecu software, ect.........................

We haven't enabled polls as a feature for all the members of the site given the ability to abuse them or oversaturate the site with them. That said we have been considering some different options for enabling them in a limited way. I'll post some follow up information if/when we are able to implement these options.

Thanks

Mark

I think the rule should be to propose / make a request and if deemed valid
> you activate it.

polls on NAM

Hey guys,

One thing I have alwyas wished we had were "polls" on the NAM board - like which header are you running or what ecu software are you using. Polls not only indicate product preference but also give us a sense of what % of the community has done the mod.

I did a post on site feedback - pls take a look and read it because it is a feature that is available but NAM brings up a good point that a process needs to be defined to run it effectively.

Please chime in - for I think we can really benefit if done properly. As an example losts of threads on headers and I would like to know how many people are running headers and which one.

Every other board I go to has a poll feature, and I agree that is it a great add-on, and useful tool...but I also believe polls can get out of hand with useless information, and poll spamming (posting numerous stupid polls over and over again). Like I said, I'm all for it and think the idea's great, and would love the feature, but I would like to make a note to the mods that they will probably have to monitor the polls.

Threads merged with redirect left in the other forum (just so we're not carrying on two poll related threads including one in Performance Mods).

I agree 100% and clearly "polls" will require NAM Board oversight.

I suggested doing a header poll, got anything in particular in mind?

As long as the results couldn't get "tainted" by people voting more than once on a given poll.

Is there a way to make sure each NAM member could only have one vote?

I think it would be really awesome to see what percentage of NAM members are running which intake, which exhaust, what pulley size, what ECU tune, what headers, etc.

Consider this a vote for YES--ENACT POLLS!

I'll add my vote to polls.

I see them virtually at every auto forum. Haven't really seen them abused but maybe the moderators watch over them, dont know. But anyone can start one.

I am sure they can be limited to one vote per screen name because you get locked out from voting after making one vote.

For Mark, this is Vbulletin? Here is an example poll on Vbulletin. http://www.caymanclub.net/showthread...highlight=poll started by some user. On the newer version it actually shows the screen name of who voted for what so there is no double posts. Just an example

Yes, it's vbulletin. We run polls for the photo contest and a few other selected topics (currently there is one going for the cracked strut mounts and mushrooming).

The abuse from unrestricted polling I have seen in the past has been where the front page of say the wheels and tires forum on another forum has 10 polls of "What wheels should I get?" type polls.

Add to that on NAM that each new vote bumps the post on the pulse (we could deactivate that if polling became more widespread, but it also helps to increase voting in the very limited number of polls we do run).

Also, for the record, you can only vote once in each poll unless the poll starter enables voting for multiple options (such as the poll I put up for the mushrooming/strut mount cracking). Showing usernames is an option, but we don't enable that so that voting remains secret.

Yeah, thats true. The votes are a poll.

I see. And with the huge number of new members coming on, its different than a board with maybe a couple of hundred active posters.

Not sure how to stop that type of abuse other than to have each forums moderator remove the posts asking those kind of questions but it would require coordination across forums. Maybe it can't be done with the huge population or maybe you all can give it a shot and if the abuse becomes rampant, just shut it down.

Polls I've seen are usually stuff like: what color did you buy? What option did you buy? What size pulley you got. All nice info to have in one place. Well, it was a thought.

It makes sense to have a secret poll on the photo contests.

Frankly I haven't had time to do anything relative to polls yet. In fact I'm working on a member program that will have as a feature the ability to create polls. Let me get further along on that front and we'll hopefully knock off two birds with one stone. Thanks!

I'd like to see a Poll on problems so we can see if there is a failure trend on some parts.
For starters and particularly failed door lock modules.

Seems pretty strange when a sticky thread owner has to offsite to do a poll regarding (kinda) the stick topic.

I'm bumping this because I went to make a poll and saw that I don't have the ability to, even with over 100 posts. At bimmerforums we have no restrictions on who can start a poll. We have well over 245,000 members and millions of posts. I've been there for eight years and have over 20,000 posts.

I can count the number of times I've seen the poll feature abused on one hand.

If someone abuses a poll then lock the thread! But I don't think it merits restricting what normal members can do because of a handful of bad apples. I just want to know people's opinions on grill modifications!
