Email replies to thread work sporatically

I notice that I often do not get emails for threads I am subscribed to. I will not get anything, then, sometimes, after I actually visit NAM I get a batch of them. The behavior varies, sometimes no emails, other times they take a long time and skip replies, etc, then other times it is more normal where I get an email for every reply to a thread.

This has to do with the amount of email that is generated from the site. The software appears to email in batches...this means that an email is not generated for each post to a thread that you are subscribed to. It instead emails at multiple times per day to let you know that something has been posted to a thread you are subscribed. Its really not intended to be a blow-by-blow emailing but to notify you that something has been posted at some point during the day.

Hope that makes it as clear as mud

Thanks for the reply Mark - although it has gone for more the a day without emailing me, then when I come back to the site I see there are new posts to threads I'm subscribed to and then after that I sudenly get any newer posts via email. Make sense?

I've changed a setting recommended by vBulletin in situations where this type of behavior is happening. Let me know if you see any change in the behavior. Thanks!

It may also depend on how often you visit the site.

You will only get an e-mail for the first reply in a thread since you last visited the site. If there are additional replies to the thread after that first e-mail but before you return to the site, you will not got additional e-mails about that thread until you actually return to the site.

All you have to do is return to the site, not visit every thread that you're subscribed to in order for the site to e-mail you the next reply.

At least that's how it worked before Mark's latest tweak

Thanks guys! I'll let you know how it goes - the behavior seemed odd and since I would not get any replies to a subscribed thread until I came back to the site it was kinda counter productive - with other sites it is often getting the emails that draws me back on. I found myself coming back to NAM less since it seemed like there are no replies, then when I get back and check there are a lot and its late to respond to something.

Cheers

Hi again, just wanted to let you know that I'm still not getting emails when there are new replies to threads so feel free to reset as you wish. Just came back to NAM now and saw several threads I'm subscribed to with newer posts and yet even now i do not have the emails.

Its a head scratcher, other forums seem to work with the same email address.
