NAM Pet Peeves
My pet peeve is those that pester the admin. and mods on this site
They have lives, they do this cause they believe in the MINI community, and when they can they will respond.
If you PAID to join this site then you might have an argument, but NO member pays, and no member is forced to stay on the site.
If the site is not to anyones liking, well move on, I would if I was so unhappy with it.
But I like this site, I can speak freely, which I do in a friendly way I hope, and I will defend this site, it's rules, and the folks that run it.
My sig may suggest that I have a stake here.I don't I watch over a forum with 20 something members, most of them post maybe once a month, I'm the mouth from the north. Ya sure I have a roll to play, it's minor, out of what 18000 members.
Sorry, I'm mad, and I don't like being mad.
But if ya don't think this site makes ya happy, and owning a MINI and yaking about ALL THINGS about MINIS and the things that those that own them want to yak about, don't make it the site for you, well move on.

Mighty big sig ya got there
See this is my point...if a rule isn't enforced...get rid of the rule!
And what role does constructive criticism have here?

, a strict interpretation of what you said there means the membership would have to be limited to one.
The fact that we're a group, we will have disagreements (like this one here). I think that makes us stronger, not weaker...... But we can agree to disagree there too, if you like!
I'm not sure what pestering is defined as. And yes, the hosts here put there time into creating a forum for us all to contribute. But to think that the participants aren't part of the value created by the endevor is wrong. The CONTENT makes much of the value here, and that is created by the contributors. Doesn't that value creation bring with it some pravalage at best, and obligation at worst, to spend effots to try to create the best place we each think that can be created? I'd view pestering as the price to be paid to the "staff" for content creation.... It's a hassle, but then even the things I love, need contant effort, some of which I don't really enjoy.... I call it ante for the game.
For what it's worth...
Matt
ps, doesn't a thread with this title INVITE some criticism of the operation of the boards?
Just a little reminder: the "staff" of moderators are all volunteers. We do not make a cent, nor do we expect to... I cannot speak for anyone else, but I am here because I love the community and am willing to donate a big chunk of time to help keep it working like a well-running engine!

I too think that we need to participate, and that may lead to heated talk, fine, but being rude has no place in a debate about car parts. It has no place in debating anything IMO. It will never get anything resolved, and has the potential of members leaving the site if it is not kept in check.
I'm not saying don't defend your position, I'm just saying that being rude will not help.
As to criticism of the operation of the site.
I feel this has it's place, and will probably help the moderators run the site better. But being snarky does not get things done when you are dealing with volunteers. I have spent decades working with them. And have been one myself, for many things.Showing attitude does not sit well with them.
I may not have expressed myself well, and I'm sorry for that. But I just want this site to be a great place to express my passion for my MINI, and the folks that feel the same about theirs
I also concur on that being rude doesn't help the cause at any cost. However, I think NAM posters have the right to question vendors that sell products here and make claims about said products. Right now the general concensus is that it is "Inappropriate" to question vendors and somehow that brakes the "harmony" of peace, love and happiness of the site.
Without debate and open, honest, cordial communication, there is nothing but a one sided street where it is "my way or no way".
I think the moderators and the site owner have done a great job at nurturing and maintaining the site, but don't let the success get to your heads.

theres a fine line
Between being witty and being an a-hole! And the nuances don't cary over the wires. So some of the "noise" is do to the reading getting an uninteded message.
Here's a novel idea, instead of getting mad a rude posters, just don't rise to the bait!
This won't solve all, but many issues.
For the comments on the hassle of rude posts, yeah that's true, but sometimes the rude poster are delivering valueable CONTENT. If I had to chose between rude posts that carry information and polite posts that don't, I'll chose the rude every day, because I'm here for content, not it's delivery.... But that's just me....
I tend to look at these things statistically. In any large group, there are angels and devils. Goes with the turf. While I do believe that some set of mores should govern behaviour on forums, there is a range or spectrum here as well.
Case in point El-Diablito Rojo (sorry, my spanish sucks) sure rocked a LOT of boats, and many for no need. But he knew his stuff, and reading his posts educated me much more than they annoyed me. His post were perfect examples of valuable content with **** poor deliver (sometimes...)
Are we better with him gone and his content (or some of it at least) deleted? I don't really think so, but it's not my call. But look at the membership, and number of guests here. It's typically 300-500 or so, so if 1% need manners lessons, we'll have 3-5 really obnoxious people. And that would be for a very, very civilized group indeed. Just look at your office pool, do a rough count and figure your OP (obnixiousness percentage). I did it for my work and it's a least 3% (I'm there, and we have about 30 in the office!), but realy about 10-15%
Anyway, on to spending more money on parts.....

Ok, I just checked your account and it looks like the system had a bit of a glitch in it where the normal posting settings hadn't stuck for your account when they should have. I reset it, and it should be fine from this point out with posts showing up as they are submitted.
Also, FWIW, the reviewed posting of new members has cut down dramatically on the amount of spam that shows up on the site.

Fixed
Turns out to have been an error on my part. We have another member with the name nefarious with roughly the same post count. I had modified, re-modified, and re-set that account, thinking it was yours (neffarious).
Your account has been reconfigured. Again, my apologies for the hassle.
