Notice Regarding Yahoo Photo Hosting
I would recommend against using Yahoo to host photos for purposes of posting the on NAM.
This is not an issue with NAM, rather it is an issue with the way Yahoo photos has their permissions set. Yahoo requires that to view the photos the viewer be logged in to Yahoo. Lacking that login, the photo URL turns into a link to log in to Yahoo, which in turn causes the red X of death
To post photos on NAM, you can use our attachment feature. When you post look below the text box and you will see a button that says Manage Attachments. Click on that button and you will be able to upload pictures (up to 800 by 600 pixels) from your hard drive to the NAM server and straight into your post.
Hope that helps. I have seen this happen in quite a few posts.

Just to clarify this:
1.) When you upload your picture via the Manage Attachments, you need to search on your local hard drive for that picture by clicking the BROWSE button. Once you have selected up to 3 pics (1 is also ok), click the UPLOAD button and WAIT. Once it's uploaded to the NAM server it will appear below that Browse window that it was successfully uploaded. THEN you can close the window.
2.) Back to your post, if you scroll down, you will see where it said Manage Attachments, the files you uploaded (remember max of 3 per post). Click on a link, and it will open in a new window. Select the URL of that picture from your web browser and COPY it. On a PC, that's Ctrl-C.
3.) Back in your post, click the image icon---yellow box with mountain and square in upper right corner, and PASTE that URL. On a PC, that's Ctrl-V.
Now your uploaded images will appear directly in your post and not require people to click on the attached files to view them.
Before uploading, resize your pictures! You have a limited amount of space allocated, so be efficient about it. I resize my pics to be no larger than 500 pixels vertically. This results in a nice size that isn't too small or too big.

I personally don't know, but Yahoo offers it's "free" services to make money. Their pictures, groups, etc.. are all ad based, and they want people looking at those ads when you share your images. I would be surprised if they permitted a way to bypass their method of revenue generation.
