Garbage symbols in the threads

I am getting stuff like this (see sample below) in some (I don't think all) of the threads on my screen. What may be going on?
I have a Mac with OS 9.2 and IE 5.1.5.

EXAMPLE:
>>>>Interesting..a true BMW owner/rider would be on their way to attending the International Rally July 15 -18..check your calander again
>>
>
>>So, anyone NOT attending Spokane is NOT a true BMW rider? Doubt many of the other bikers that are staying local that week would appreciate that!

This doesn't have anything to do with your computer they are after effects of the migration process. I think it is only a problem with posts that were made before the migration. New posts should not have them. Check out this link.

SCMCS is correct there are two different issues.

RE: the Word Formatting issue

If you are writing a post up in Word, you need to copy the text into "Notepad" and then copy it again from Notepad to NAM. Notepad will strip of the text formatting, so you won't get all those extra tags.
