I didn't say it was a race!

This is the first forum/club that I've been involved with that lock threads regarding racing. And I've been involved in enough over the years. I can accept and understand that every one has their own rules, but why can't we even talk about it? Yes it's an illegal issue to be involved with on the road. But why so harsh when we are just talking about it? What harm is there with that??? There are so many other illegal issues in threads and posts that have been brought up that haven't got banned or locked.
In regards to the last thread, there wasn't even any mention of and speed limits being broke. Just a little friendly competition. What gives? It's not like the post was mentioning break-neck speeds weaving in and out of traffic.
Everyone speeds in their life time. Even plays a little with someone else on the road. We all either have done it or still do it ( speeding or racing or both ). I feel there's a freedom of speech extraction ocurring here. But that's just my opinion. Just polightly asking what gives. No flaming. But I feel this will get locked in no time as well.

I personally have no problem with others talking about street racing, however I cannot condone actually doing street racing. I think I can safely say I have a representative viewpoint among the Mods here on NAM. Despite this, it's difficult to discern between "talking" and "doing" in an E-environment. Subsequently, I feel it's appropriate to keep discussion of this particular illegal and dangerous activity as low-key as possible. The reason is to minimize arguments, negativity, and immature ranting from disrupting an otherwise informative and helpful forum structure. Perhaps start a thread in one of the Off-Topic forums (whichever is most relevent to your topic) to discuss. That said, because this thread is in response to administrative actions, I'm moving it to Site Feedback

I hope this helps,
Ryan

I've been on many car boards and read tons of "racing" posts. Probably 5% of those posts had any useful information, and more often than not they degrade quickly. I'm glad that crap doesn't show up on NAM. If you want to know what cars are or aren't faster than a Mini there are plenty of 1/4 mile posts to check out.

I raced my mailman the other day. As I shifted into second to blow him away, he gave up and stopped at the first mailbox down the block

We currently have a thead on NAM about speeding. There isn't any mention excessive speeding (100+), so the thread remains open. Most of the comments are about being 10 mph over. No problem with that, it's normal driving.

We don't allow street racing discussions on NAM.
We don't allow accounts of excessive speeding (100+) or of wreckless behavior on public roads.

We encourage you to test yourself against others on closed courses in controlled environments, not on public streets.

Here's the post that I locked:

MINI Talk :: Ripped up a Z4

Let's just recap what you posted:

- you "Ripped up a Z4" on public roads
- gave him a nod and you both took off
- he was "weeping bitterly" (due to the lose)
- you had time to slow down to exit and then he blew by you

Don't try to tell me that wasn't a street race.

If that isn't clear enough, send me a PM.

Dave
