Marketplace Issues

I have just joined NAM this month and I have found it to be the most useful forum for MINI owners.

The marketplace section is great execpt for 2 issues.

The distance posted with the ads is WAY off the mark. Sometimes it's not even within 2 states of where the item is. I know this is used as a baseline for those posting and those looking at the posts. Is there anyway to make it a little more accurate?

The second issue is the people who post items. When an item is SOLD, please mark the item as SOLD, edit the ads so somebody can tell if item is SOLD or not. Someone states that they have sent PM but there is no info if they have purchased item or not.

Thank you.

We currently rely on a third party system that uses an imperfect database, so there are two things I recommend. First is go to your cookies, delete the cookie "northamericanmotoring.com/zipcode" and then when you log back into the marketplace re-enter your zip code, this rules out a typo causing an error. The second is to always confirm with the seller before making a purchase just to verify that the location is calculating correctly.

A third thing you may want to try is inputting the zip code of a nearby town and see if that is more accurate for getting a ballpark of the shipping distance.

I understand these are temporary fixes, I have leads on long term fixes but it's just not all the way there yet.

We try to keep the ads cleaned up to within a year, allowing people to repost at that time if the item has not sold. If an item does sell we expect people to mark it as sold, which they can do from the bottom of the ad. A little reminder never hurts though.

However, those "Sold" ads still return in active searches and listings which is fustraiting.
Would it be possible just to purge them after notification of sold?
Or able to remove the "Sold" ads from the search quiery?

They remain up for 90days to allow people to see what current market value for similar items are and to provide reference should a dispute arise and someone needs to send the link to paypal or their credit card company or bank. After 90days they are automatically purged.

I've been trying to post an add, but every time it goes to finalize the post, it kicks back to the "select location of post" step and discards the info. This has happened now on each of about 6 attempts to create the add.

Are you uploading with images? They may be too large, if you can upload it without the images then edit to add them one at a time (and scale them down to shrink the image size so they all fit) you should be able to work around that.
