Im just saying.......
Everyone on this site is such nitpickers and rule followers. Its not like there are many people on this forum who have never raced illegally a time or two in their more aggressive years.
A large portion of this forum is dedicated to performance modifications. If you honestly think that most people on the forum actually race only on a track, then you are denying the obvious.
All I'm saying is lighten up. Everyone is such wieners here. I love the forum and have for 5 years, I just think its silly to get all worked up and actually site rules from the rulebook. What geeks.

I have several quick reaction...
First - Semper Fi, and thanks for your service.
Second - you are quite right that I have driven on public roads one hell of a lot faster than the law allows, although I do not recall ever having raced in the narrow sense that I was competing against others for first arrival. Whether I do this still is my own damned business.
Third - I have also scraped friends off the pavement, back when motorcycles were my passion, and know first hand the terrible regret that comes when risks taken translate into blood shed.
Fourth - Have you any notion of the profession of law, and the concept of liability? Quite apart from the question of whether the language here betrays any hypocrisy, this site is operated by a business and the rules in that case do not resemble those that govern our personal behaviors.
And finally, and out of respect - I will completely ignore "wieners".
Cheers,
Charlie
NAM doesn't allow talk of illegal activities, including street racing, for liability reasons. If Person A posts about an illegal race with a Super-Dooper-Mobile then Person B reads the post and decides they want to race a Super-Dooper-Mobile too. So they go out and find one and race it, and gets pulled over in the process, NAM doesn't want to be held liable by Person B by giving them the ability to say, "well, I saw on NAM that my MINI can race the Super-Dooper-Mobile, it's their fault."
I have seen this on other forums too and I guess I seem the need to reduce liability but even with the court system and lawyers as they are today I still would find it hard to believe a website would be liable for the posts of others (non site owner). Some sites are more lax about it and some are much more strict, but at the end of the day rules are rules and I guess if I want to be a part of this good website I will abide by them.
Just my $0.02
Just my $0.02
Also consider the fact that a MINI is a 4-cyl Hatchback and many here would like to show represent the community as a whole as a group of mature enthusiasts that can go to the drag strip or HPDE day, instead of the immature Fast and Furious stigma that latched heavily to the Honda Civics. The posts on the forums are reflective of the community as a whole, and the MINI pops up in many Google searches, even when researching items for other cars, I still get hits back to NAM. As I write this post there are more than twice as many guests on NAM as there are registered users.
Then consider the already discussed liability issues, while users are responsible for their own actions it's not something that I or many others would like to have to address in court should a situation come to that; not to mention, how would you feel if your posts encouraged someone into making actions resulting in the injury, death or imprisonment of someone else?
Case in point there were many threads started and merged into one, when I believe it was late last year around the holiday season, a MINI was traveling in excess of 100mph and lost control killing an entire family sitting at a stoplight. That accident has brought significant extra speed enforcement to that area and for quite a while painted the MINI community as a group of reckless drivers, simply because that was what made the news.
When you joined this site, you agreed to the rules, those rules have fostered the growth of the community here for more than seven years now; and personally I think they provide a good solid base for active discussion without being too restrictive. And when it comes to the Legal guideline, a more relax approach to the guideline has been reflected after the concern was raised about too strict an interpretation of it years ago. This thread is dated 10-26-2010, 04:04 PM, the last infraction issued for violating the street racing guideline goes all the way back to Early May, and December for the thread that warranted infractions before that; many more are simply warned and guided toward proper behavior. It all depends upon how severe the violation was, how long the user has been a member on NAM and whether or not they are encouraging other users to violate the guidelines.
We've got an entire section of forums dedicated to proper outlets for racing and fast driving, and the training to do it safer and smarter than on the street, if you're not going to go through the proper outlets then you do not need to have that discussion here. The site does not want the liability concerns and the community doesn't want to be regarded as irresponsible and dangerous. And name calling and whining that you don't like the rules, without providing any logical reasoning against them, including your we've all done it argument, which from my own personal experience does not hold true is not going to be an effective manner to bring about change.
