Just one persons vote to do away with animated/scrolling/morphing sigs, especially those on vendors posts.
Yes, the eye is attracted to movement.
Yes, it is an effective, if irritating, way to get someone's attention.
I know the vendors, I see their sigs. If I want to view their wares, I'll click and go.
I find it annoying to see a scrolling ad in the middle of a 'Mini Talk' discussion.
I choose not to do business with those that resort to annoying marketing ploys, but that won't stop them from being there.
We have scrolling ads at the top of the forum, but at least they aren't embedded in the threads, and can be avoided.

Mark? Thoughts? Comments?

Agreed in part. There are a lot of annoying animated-style signatures. I do think some animated-style signatures are pretty cool; like Phobol's "morphing" sig--it's just about the coolest thing around IMHO. I'd rather vendors sigs be a lot smaller anyway. We already get their banner ads which they pay for, but why should they get to have excessive advertisement by having their sig lines by monster ads inside of any discussion on the site. A little self-portrait or link to their site is one thing (a la Randy). I won't mention the others. They know who they are.

Can you email me with specifics on the users (aka vendors) that have these type of sigs in use? I'd like to take a look at them. I can't recall the last time I ran across one in a thread on the site. If you could send me links to specific threads I would appreciate it. Again, please send them to me via PM or using my email address below. Thanks

Mark

I wish my sig was as cool as Phobol's. He's my sig hero!

Oh yeah, he's good too. He's an Adobe Illustrator master. (At least that's what I think he's using.)

I'll make a tutorial in OT, so anyone who thinks it's a cool sig can make one in Photoshop. (no rollover though, it'll conflict with NAM if there's more than one sig)

I hadn't noticed Phobols - I actually like that - as it is INTERACTIVE and not DISTRACTIVE. It lights up when you roll over it, versus flashing incessantly.

Some of the others, like minihune's (sorry!) are cute at first but get annoying quickly when I'm trying to read a post. Am I the only one who has to 'hide' it at the bottom of the screen when reading those posts?

I appreciate the creativity and understand the desire to customize but...

"when I was a kid, you had to chisel your signature into a stone tablet..."
