She does have a point - that could have been handled in a better way ...

Yeah he was a bit harsh in his responce, but the guy really didn't give him a chance to respond in a professional manner. Besides, we both know this site can trash a reputation quickly, deserved or not. In Peter's case with all the glowing praise, little worry but you can't be too careful.

Vendors (or anyone, for that matter) have every right to dig their own grave.

I think the original poster deserves a chance to have this issue fairly heard without having this thread turned into something else all together

My understanding of this situation is that there was a miscommunication regarding the type of shipping that was to be used and what tracking, if any, was to be provided. Going forward I encourage everyone that has an issue with a vendor to contact that vendor by email AND phone. Give them a chance to follow up with you and correct any issue that you may have. Only after you feel no other recourse should you post to the site. Unfortunately a post about a problem that can usually be ironed out easily using other means (a phone call) turns into a damage control effort by the vendor. I'm not saying that it's not appropriate to post your problem...just give the vendor a chance to make it right with you. Thanks

Mark

I liked how the sponsor got the last word and then locked the thread. Smart of them.

Related to this and the ability of vendors to moderate forums...I will be implementing some new vendor guidelines in the near future which will include some changes in who actually moderates (ie - can lock) posts. This functionality will be managed by myself and a team of core moderators on the site. More information to come... Thanks!

Glad to hear it, Mark. I didn't have that big of a problem with the thread in question. Things were not really handled right on either side. For one guy to flip out because he didn't hear anything on his fog light cover in 24 hours, isn't really justified, especially considering that he didn't even try to call them. But Peter (RSpeed) was a little jumpy in defending himself, and absolutely should NOT have been allowed to lock a thread just to try to save face...although I tend to agree with Ryan--if the vendor wants to do things that will make his company look bad, then more power to him!

How can you say that he was picking a fight? kenchan was the one who started using the inflammatory language and making accusations and assuming the worst right off the bat. Peter has every right to defend himself against that sort of BS, and other than locking the thread, I think he handled it reasonably well.
