Announcement: NAM and Internet Brands
#101
You do realize that the first two issues of the Alliance magazine are free? They are fully accessible to all NAM members--so there shouldn't be an issue in people referencing various How-To articles.
Obviously as a vendor and contributor to the magazine, my opinion might be taken as a little biased for why the magazine is important, but I don't see much difference in Alliance members referencing an article versus a NAM member referencing an MC2 article on the forums.
As for whether it's permissible to quote sections--I'll leave that up to Mark to reply, but I would think like anything, as long as copyrights are not being violated--usually permission is required to repost/reprint articles.

One way that NAM may change for non-Alliance members is that Alliance folks are going to be citing or directing people to articles that appeared in the magazine, which is of course not accessible to non-members. In fact, I've seen this already in a couple of threads. ("Check out the X issue for the how-to ...")
I will probably join the NAM Alliance just to get the magazine---just wanted to point out this possible change for the non-alliance members NAM experience.
This brings up one question: May Alliance members cut and past text or pictures from the magazine into threads where they might be relevant to the thread?

I was concerned about this happening with the upcoming issues which are no longer open to others.

What I loved about the old NAM (from a vendors point of view) was that a small guy like me could come up with an idea like VacuCam and get it to market within the community without huge up front costs. That's just not possible anymore and the community suffers from it.
It also fostered loyalty among members to help the vendors that helped them back..as opposed to these new vendors that are not active in the community and are to to make a quick buck at the lowest cost to win the customers over.
Sadly, with the way the economy is and the way IB introduces competition--I know of one specific vendor who declined IB's very low advertising pricing simply because he knew myself and DP were long time vendors here and respected that and didn't want to compete with us. Of course with him not coming in, another company was happy to step in his place.
It's really sad. I think eventually us small guys will be driven out of the very community we helped build which afforded us dream jobs out of this passion.

Wait aren't these context related advertising based on your active search history? Maybe you've been visiting too many "enlargement" sites??
Yah ok I was just kidding, there is no such thing on the internet.........

Hi,
I'm Adrian, and I work for Internet Brands.
Just to answer some of your questions, and to apologize for the ***** enlargement ads.
We didn't intend to have ***** enlargement (or other objectional content) displayed in the ads, we do our best to block that, and we apologize that it got through.
As for other ads - on occasions where we are unable to get enough Mini vendors to "fill" our advertising inventory there may be other (non Mini related) ads that may be displayed.
These should not contain objectional content.
Again, my apologizes, and I hope that answers your questions,
Adrian
