that Off-Topic is NOT one of the "5 top active Forums" this morning?? That may be a first.

I think part of it may be due to a lot of "Off Topic" stuff happening on the new Florida site... lol. Just kiddin'... that's really unusual.

I'm leading a group to the top of the Washington Monument later today, we're planning on sacrifycing a marshmellow to bring Off Topic back into its rightful position. Anybody care to join us?

It isnt a bug. It's intentional, and I have to say I support the change (not that I had anything to do with it). The O.T. posts still show up in the Pulse and also in the drop-down forum jump menu.

Maybe this helps get people back onto the rest of the site more often. I don't see that as a bad thing.

A little nudge from the webmasters to get the Tire Rack forum more visible eh? Makes sense to me... this is a MINI site, not a yahoo chat room. I like having the OT forum, but the top 5 should be MINI related.

It doesn't surprise me that they did this, the webmasters and moderators are always messing with stuff, they even deleted my H2 graphic from the Artistic Impressions gallery... annoying since I was using it in my sig. Didn't even send me a PM.

It's not a bad thing, but if it wasn't for OT being over in the top 5 I don't think I ever would have ventured over there.

As I suspected. No, I don't see it as a bad thing either. I love many of the OT topics, but making them a bit less obvious is IMO a good thing.

I noticed it dropped a little while after ryan's (red03miniS) post was clipped, after the "what's ok and not ok.. "thread was started.

??

everyone lost interest?

What the @#%*&! Of course I noticed, like getting hot mud instead of my morning cup of joe, or if the Mrs. lost all her hair one evening. OT is still here, but just requires one more click.

Everyone,
The changes you have noticed in the "5 top active forums" and "5 recent topics" where Off-topic is no longer listed is a change I enacted last night. This change was brought about by two factors:

- discussions early in the week that did not meet (or come close to meeting) the site posting guidelines.
- the impression that there is more off-topic discussion on the site than MINI-related content. As I am now trying to support my family by working on the site full-time it is critical that the site provide a good impression to new visitors, potential vendors, and those at BMW/MINI. Being able to gain new members, and continue to provide a information rich environment will help build relationships with vendors and BMW/MINI that will further strengthen the information that we can deliver.

As Dave mentioned the Pulse has not been changed as that it is often a tool that is usually missed by the new comer. In the future I hope to add user-preference to the Pulse to remember what specific forums you would like monitored.

I hope this explains why the changes were made and that you will support my reasons for doing so.

Mark

I know you've mentioned this before, and I very much would like to see this feature! It would make the Pulse much more useful to me and help to reduce the debilitating effects of my current Pulse addiction. Thanks again for the good work Mark!

ps -- that spell checker thing would be nice too.

Thanks Mark,

I like the changes!

With respect to personalized pulse menus,
one consideration might be to have an overall (whole site) pulse as is, as well as separate pulses for either each forum or a group of related forums.
MINI talk alone might deserve it's own pulse.

Just a thought.
Thanks for all the efforts you are putting into this great site!

Markus

>>damn you Ryan!!

I'm leaving this post in to point out exactly what type of problems we have been having on the site lately. This thread is in regard to a change that was made to the site and the forum is for Site feedback...help me understand why this type of post is occurring....

If you can't contribute to the post then don't reply.

Thanks!

Mark
