Snow!
Snow!
Yeah, we finally got some snow! (Can you tell I'm a skier?) Actually, I couldn't wait to try my MINI in the snow. It ROCKS! I can't even begin to tell you how many SUV's I passed that were in wrecks on the side of the road.
Cars were stuck all over the place and the MINI, with summer tires, powered through!
I did have a little scare yesterday on an icy hill. I went up this hill once and was fine. Went through a second time...an SUV got in my way and I had to slow down. I slowed down too much, lost all momentum and started spinning the tires at the top of the hill. I couldn't get ANY traction. Panic set in as I started to slide faster and faster going backwards down this hill.
Thank God there was nothing behind me! Then, magically my car did a fast 180, I put it in gear and hit the gas. Off I went without a problem!
I felt like a stuntcar driver!
Anyone else have any stories?
I'm investing in a set of snow tires soon. What do you guys run?
Happy slippy and slidy motoring!

I run Nokian Hakka 2s, w/studs, 185/65-15. They are fantastic. No more ice problems.
Remember, narrower tires are better in the snow and ice. 15" wheels give you a taller sidewall to adsorbe all of the winter potholes.
Tire Rack sells 15" steel rims for the MINI. It is an inexpensive way to go. It also gives your car a sort of "street fighter" look for the winter and saves the alloy wheels from the salt and sand. Unfortunately they do not sell Nokian tires
