Awesome info, thank you!
Admittedly being a gen-one newbie I'm guessing the slicktop is considered a desirable non-option because anyone ordering a JCW would also just tick the sunroof box to flex their wallet? Therefore there aren't many of them. Our R56 sunroof was a bit of a lemon so not having to deal with any of that nonsense would be welcome. Plus bonus points with the Autocrossers for the Colin Chapman spec. =P
Any way to tell if the JCW pack was installed pre vs post purchase? Looks like I need to re-read the R53 buyers guide and throw a cheeky offer at these guys. They are even ~15 miles away from my preferred Mini specialist for a PPI too. That might help drive down the price depending on what they find.
We need to stop buying black cars though... They look phenomenal... for the first 20 minutes after a wash. >.<

No probbo!
Many people do desire the slicktop and they're somewhat difficult to find because most folks were upsold to Premium Package #1 with the infernal panoramic glass roof which as you indicate can be prone to problems in more ways than one.
And yes!
Bonus points indeed for CC spec and "adding lightness"!
The weight saving is around 70 or so pounds I think?
Since it's an '06, most likely it's a factory JCW --- if you had the VIN you could run it through a decoder and know for sure.
I got the original windowsticker with mine --- combo #6 JCW added $6,300 so total was $30,600,
it would have been $1,400 more if the combo #1 premium package was added.

...speaking of ebayUK,
here's an interesting listing:
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2002-Mini...kAAOSweWhampO9
An impressive spec sheet there, but certainly not to everyones taste,
as it is, as they say, a bit Max Power over-the-top.
Max Power was a lads mag from the UK from the 90's which had a very Fast & Furious vibe and is now a descriptor used for such cars which may recall that pimp-a-delic vaderkit era.

That has the old Duell AG body kit that was popular back in the 2002-2006 era, that has a bunch of money and super rare parts in it. Duell AG which we carry now does not really carry any of those anyone. Cool that you posted up and found this. Yes its fast and furious because it was designed in Japan with those body kit.

I especially like those old Rieger kits:
The Duall AG kit for R53 is one of the better styles I've seen,
too bad they don't supply it anymore.
An old video:

Yep, I asked them and they were looking into it, But we're not confident on bringing it back. They pretty much dont want to do the older ones anymore. But those are some cool old videos.

Came across a GP this morning.
It has 90,587 miles and the asking price is $12,300.
https://detroit.craigslist.org/mcb/c...908862000.html
The pictures in the listing are absolutely Lousy with a capital L.
:
GP 1066 has changed hands several times, and apparently it's been in Michigan the whole time it seems.
It made an appearance here on the NAM classifieds in 2007 at 16,600 miles:
https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...gp-1066-a.html
:
And again in 2011 at 53,000 miles:
https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...-for-sale.html
:
In 2012 on MA at 74,000 miles:
https://www.motoringalliance.com/thr...gp-1066.15507/
In that ad the owner reported the gearbox was broke and needed to be towed,
price drop to $11,000.
The seller provided a nice pictorial portfolio in that ad,
here:
https://share.rationalgaze.com/2012/11-02-2012/
On the whole,
it all makes for interesting reading if you'd happen to be considering purchasing it.
:
Meanwhile,
over in BAT land...
...6 hours left on GP 0602 with 32,000 miles:

The good thing about the Detroit listed GP is that the guys at Detroit Tuned have had their hands on it. Can highly recommend the work that they do.
The bad thing about it is the those bloody awful red wheels. They would be the first things to go into the bin.

BaT is now the go-to joint for collectible car online auctions, especially for special interest or eurocentric people --- but like any auction it all depends on the players and it only takes 2 to get into a bidding war and drive up the price.
The record sale price for a GP1 on BaT is $36,000 one year ago for a minty fresh example that had only 14 miles.
https://bringatrailer.com/listing/2006-mini-gp-5/
!!!
It's pretty interesting to survey the ebb and flow:
https://bringatrailer.com/mini/modern/
One of my favorite aspects of BaT, besides all the insanely cool cars, is the comment section where some really knowledgeable folks weigh in, even "celebrities" like Satch Carlson comment there, he's always been one of my fave auto journalists because I was an oldschool Saabnut for so long and he's a Saabguy too.
And Peter Egan is another great writer who comments there --- if you haven't read it, this piece by him is gen1 specific and is fun reading,
here:
https://www.roadandtrack.com/car-cul...at-mini-blitz/
His old XKE was sold on BaT too!
It was a cool auction to follow...
https://bringatrailer.com/listing/19...-xke-coupe-11/
.
Many thanks.
Man,
it must've been great back when you could get the factory aero already painted proper color --- would make it all so easy and convenient
Bonus for DT maintained.
But the red wheels are bloody fuggin awful I agree.

I think the local Pepper White / Chili Red JCW R58 gets first attention, but I would like to drive that R53 too. Thanks for the additional info!
To think... we're not even in the market technically! >.< Might have to sell the FIAT to change that. ;]

Yep. It's a Checkmate. I actually took this for a test drive a while back... like August 18. They are having trouble selling it I think. It drove ok but just needed the love $$$ all older MINI's do.
#619
Yep, from the looks, the interior is a little rough and the headlight need to be done or replaced.

I’ve been lurking on this site for the last few weeks trying to learn all about the R53s and I think I’m ready to take the plunge. What do you guys think of this? Is it a good deal? It’s being sold by a dealer so he doesn’t really know much about the history of the car except that it is completely stock.
I’m planning to take a closer look at it this weekend and want to know what would be a good negotiating price if the car checks out fine.
