Interesting posts on how Boxster Owners view MCS
I pulled this from the P-car thread because it is worthy of a read by everyone ... CREDIT to zoz for finding it
You can read the thread here http://www.ppbb.com/board/986board.htm
then look for the "Glad it wasn't for pink slips.." thread
You may have to search down to May 1 to find it ... lots of interesting observations on how Boxster owners view the MCS. Particularly one of the last comments ...

Basially a Boxster S Driver amazed how his car stacked up against a MINI, from a situation that is not discussed on NAM. Then the rest jump in to show amazement and add up the Numbers and debate the exact definition of a clown car vs a clown shoe car.
I was recently driving up highway 84 toward highway 35 on the S.F. peninsula (very twisty sections). Low and behold I came upon a Boxster S. When he saw me in his rear view mirror, he punched it. Try as he might, the Boxster S could not shake me. This was not a race, but he was trying to open up a lead on me to no avail. And I have just a box-stock MCSa....

I was really interested in reading the Boxster thread for a couple of reasons. First, I was impressed that someone would publicly admit their "shame" (but still had to add disbelief that it had to have been a modified MCS). You've gotta give the guy credit for posting that experience.
Second, it was nice to see that, much like here on NAM, there are some technically savvy folks on the Boxster site. I'm glad to know that there are other car nuts out there who know what they're talking about...the kind of people you could talk shop with in the parking lot of Target when you are buying dryer sheets, socks and batteries (OK, that part doesn't really matter).
Third, "autocentrism" always amazes me. What makes someone think that Boxster is the end-all of sports cars? Or a Z350? Or a Lexus IS? or a (fill in the blank)? I knew a guy with a supercharged Camry who could smoke many production sports cars on the road. Anyone who cares about performance knows that it has little to do with a name plate. I did some casual street racing as a "yout'" and quickly learned how to examine springs & tires, count the bolts on the differential, listen for lifter noise to detect a big cam, etc. before throwing down the gauntlet (you always had to watch for the "sleepers", like some gearhead with a 318 in a Dodge Dart!).
Fourth, the thread (at least some of the replies to the original) highlights the intolerance some have for individual choice. We buy cars for lots of different reasons, and that's the way it should be. My last car was an RX-8, and some Nissan Z owner actually had the nerve to ask why I didn't "go all the way" and get a Z. I replied in the nicest way possible that I was fond of my children and wanted them to have a place to sit in my car whenever they wanted. I guess that would be my response to any of the Boxster owners who posted to the thread, too...sure Porsche is a fun car, but my MINI can be fun with my teenagers in it along with me.

(1) Most of the guys on the thread did not seem that threatened by the original poster's story. Try running the same post on the Evo or Scooby pages.....
(2) I'm not sure about the "technically savvy" part. I seem to remember quotes about "aftermarket superchargers" - seen any of those lately?
(3) and (4) The same reason why people on this board think the Mini is the end all car. You've seen the fanaticism/autocentrism that people here have when defending their $25K purchase, double that for the Boxster..........

It was the specs on weight to HP ratings that struck me as "savvy".
