Saw this on the way to work!

Caught this billboard on the way to work...couldn't resist a quick picture.

With gas at $3/gallon, SUV's are cryin'...MINI's are flyin'.

Motor on.

that is great!

I was so mad the other day that I didn't have a camera. I passed a billboard for a car dealership that said "Need a Truck?" and it had a picture of a jon boat strapped to the roof of a MINI.

I need to go out there again but it is way out of my way somewhere I don't normally go.

Sorry...no help for the 'ol self-esteem here addam. It's basically saying "who cares about OPEC or the price of gas." Brave words...but imo MINI aren't THAT good, especially MCSs as pictured. Give me mpg in the 40s and then the braggin' can start.

OPEC is the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries. They control how much oil is produced, and at what rate.

The Schmopec line is akin to saying, "movie, schmovie, I'll read the book."

I do not know the origin of adding this prefix to words, but I believe it is related to Yiddish.

The idea of the billboard is a nice way of saying, "screw you," to the oil producers, since the MINI is great on gas.

Hope this helps...not sure what was misleading.

Thanks, Mayim, for the concise explanation. I did not know about "movie, schmovie", but now I won't forget it.

However I agree with Gokartride (and perhaps you do too) that the MC's fuel economy isn't a powerful enough punchline for the otherwise clever caption.

Best wishes.

I absolutely agree with you guys. MINI's advertising has always been hilarious, although not always true, but then again, if car companies told us the truth about everything (good and bad) with their products, we'd all be riding bicycles.

You know, this would make a cool thread...start one that people post pictures of MINI billboards they see while driving around. Don't know if it has been done before or not, but could be fun.

I'm sure we'd end up with some duplicates, but it might be neat to see how many we come up with.

We can start with Jimmy's and maybe just add the location of the billboard, i.e., city/state/cross streets.

What does everyone think? Jimmy, if you're up for it, go ahead and post over on the new thread - you gave me the idea and therefore deserve to be first!

I started it up and titled it (those of you with kids will get this name) "I Spy...a MINI Billboard".

Sounds like fun.

I took this picture in Dallas, Texas in July 2003.

the latest issue of DWELL magazine is themed entirely in MINI! there are mini ads throughout the mag, flip-book style on where you watch a MINI park where a SUV can't and much more.

the issue is all about living in small spaces.
