what is the difference betwen the standard file and the tuner file .i know that the tuner give you 4 remap. but when you order the standard file MTH made the file considering the mods or is just a standard set up.

MTH standard gives you a little more HP, DSC mod, a higher redline, and ECU mods to fit your current mods.

MTH Tuner gets more HP, torque available at lower RPM, a 1-year-free updates and DSC/higher redline.

I'm running the "new" Tuner file since a little while and it's awesome!

I've tried both Standard and Tuner files, and the Tuner file does make a great difference! If I had to do this again, I'd choose the Tuner file without a doubt!

I'd never go back to stock or MTH Standard after trying the Tuner file!

And the one-year-free updates are also very nice! The ECU can follow your engine mods without any concerns!

What are we talking about as far as "lower RPMs". To some people 4K is lower RPM. Does the tuner file improve torque in the 2-3K range?

 

Yes - a bit more than a 15% pulley (at least when used with a pulley). It also improves the smoothness of your starting out - no more wait to avoid the bog-then-go of a standard MCS.

whats the DSC mod? what does it do?

 

The ASC/DSC mod reduces the sensitivity of the ECU to cut the engine. So your traction control will be less intrusive when wheels are spinning. It's a great feature, and that was how I could tell if the dealer erased my MTH file when I had the Standard one... With the Tuner, I could tell right away, since the car would miss some power!

 

I recently added the ALTA CAI and the the Tuner File. While I could feel some improved performance with the CAI, the Tuner File dramatically increased my MCS '05 perfomance. Actually it was amazing. Well worth the upgrade cost. Just those two mods are the least expensive way of getting about 30 BHP more. Go for it!

I just uploaded the MTH Tuner file, and its awesome Particularly useful for CVT since it will solve the low rev/speed jerk inherent in CVT.

Yesterday, I uploaded my 94 octane Tuner file (I had the 91 octane one before) and it's great... just as I expected! I always put 94 octane fuel in my car so the "94 octane file" was a need. A good MINI owner was kind enough to come to my place with his laptop and let me use his computer. Awesome guy and great help!

I'm still in the "ECU learning curve" stage, but feel it has a bit more punch.

MTH Tuner file rocks and should be considered by any MINI owner!

 

I'd bet that you can't tell any difference after the ECU "learns" for 20 miles or so.

IMHO, the 500 miles of "learning" that is frequently discussed is mostly mythical, and the difference over the next 480 miles is maybe a 5%-er.

 

Up until today I have run the standard version of MTH that was available as of July 2005. It was better than stock, but still had its issues. I just uploaded the newest update of the standard version and I have to say that I am very happy. The car pulls strong (noticeable better below 3000K) and runs very smooth. I was still plagued with the "stumble" previously, but it appears to have been corrected now. Excellent job!

 

Would it be worth getting the tuner file if the only mods on the car for now are cold air intake and exhaust?

Most of the comments above seem to apply to the MCS - how about an MC with only a cat back (MyMini Touring) exhaust. I'm not at all interested in DSC mod or raising the redline, and don't intend any other engine perf. modifications. thanks

 

I'll bump this question again, since the thread appears to have died . . .
With an MC (not an MCS), with no mods other than an aftermarket exhaust (effect of which is negligible), no DSC, and no plans to mod the engine further, is there any particular advantage to going with the "tuner" file as opposed to the standard file?

 

I have a MCs and imo the tuner was totally worth it as my only mod (15% pulley eventually... like after my warranty expires). I don't know the exact effect tuner would have on a MC but if its anything like MCs, then i'd say go for it!

 

Absolutely - think of the standard file as a fix for the factory ECU (smoothes out the powerband, adds ASC to the MC, adds a few more ponies), while the tuner file does all that AND delivers more power than the standard file.

 

Do any of you actually reach 7200? or shift before that?

 

And I was banging the rev limiter a ton!
