Mind you, I cleaned the area before I noticed the problem. I knew there was a leak here but now I'm more concerned after my find. The line can be pulled about 1/4" towards the firewall. The heat shields media is soaked in oil. Isn't this line pressurized? Shouldn't I be spewing oil everywhere? Am I going to be forced to rush install an already planned down pipe earlier just to change my line?

 

It is common for that oil line to crack due to thermal cycling.
Detroit Tuned makes a flexible turbocharger oil line that eliminates the problem.

Other vendors may make a similar product, but this is the one I know about.

 

That line is supposed to adjust in and out with an 0-ring seal on it. They did that for the factory assembly. But over time with the turbo that is super hot the o-ring cooks it self and stops sealing. It starts to move in and out more often, then it starts to leak oil out, then it starts to spew oil out. Some movement is normal, but if it is really lose, it's a safe bet that it's going to be leaking soon. We sell several kits to fix leaks in that area. I always recommend the super kit to fix everything in that area at once so you never have to take that whole area apart again.

 

Planned on ordering your line as of last night, finalized this afternoon.

 

Detroit Tuned super kit is the way to go, I did the install in my last mini at the same time as intercooler + dp. You should have no problem getting into front end service mode for a little extra space if the car's been in Texas. Mine was in WI...

Take your time when you route the Detroit Tuned line around the exhaust manifold gasket....I had a real hard time getting mine so that it wouldn't rub.....in fact, never got it perfect.

 

4 to 6 hours...NOT!

Someone else obviously has done work on this car, terrible work. My top bolt on the turbo seized and the nut was cross threaded! We had to cut it off, drill it out, tap it, thread it, add a heli coil, and then throw it all together. Seven hours day 1, nine hours day 2, including lunches, dinner, 2 store runs and 2 friends catching up with each other.

Oh and the oem oil line was leaking at the block connection, bad. Now I know where my 1 quart every 3500 miles is going. Check there as well as up top, you'd be surprised.

Wow, sorry to hear you had so many problems with the install. It took me a similar amount of time to:

- install Helix FMIC
- install catless downpipe
- replace turbo oil line (with Detroit Tuned)
- replace oil filter housing gasket
- oil change
- coolant flush

Most of which you probably did too. I estimate about 14 hours total with 2 people. Took a while to get some of the nuts and bolts off bc of rust. And we couldn't put the car in front end service mode due to too much rust!

 

 

That would have been a waste of time.
