1st oil change at 19k mi?
Hello everyone I got a used 2015 mini cooper s in Dec with 8300 mi, build date 4/15. I just hit 10k mi and the computer is telling me that my 1st oil change is not for another 9k mi or 11/2017. That would be 19,000 mi before the 1st oil change or 1 year 7mo after it was built. I called mini and the service guy told me that sounded normal. Which I don't believe a 19,000mi oil change is normal. I bought the mini 100k extended maintenance program and if they will only pay for an oil change every 19k mi I'll feel pretty ripped off. I almost think the service interval may have been reset on 11/2016 without service being done as that was when the car was traded into the dealer. Any suggestions on how to proceed and actually use my pre paid maintenence?
Thanks
Just to add when I bought the car it said 9000 mi till 1st service, I have driven 1700 miles and it still says 9000mi til service.

I like the car a lot and want it to last as long as possible but my question wasn't when should I change the oil.
What I want to know is what is the suggested time/mileage by mini for the 1st oil change. Right now the computer is telling me the 1st oil change isnt until 19,000 mi or on 11/2017. Does this sound right to anyone? Dealer told me it sounds normal. But a 19,000 mi oil change or 1 year 7 months (11/2017) from when the car was built (4/2015). I want my oil changed now and at least every 10k mi. I bought the 100k service package from mini and want an oil change now covered my the maintenance package I already bought.

I have a very similar situation. Bought a used 2015 JCW Hardtop on 11/16 with 6900 miles. Built date was 2/14. Went thru service record and found no oil change done since delivery. Took it to my local Mini Dealer in SF. they look at it and said its not time for oil change yet. they asked me to come back when it hit 12k. I didn't feel comfortable with it and had somebody else change the oil but without resetting maintenance reminder. I do change my oil every year regardless how low miles I driven that year.

The typical oil change intervals for BMWs/MINIs for models 2014 or newer is every 10k miles or every 12 months.

Something sounds wrong.
I'd do an oil change now even if I had to pay for it. Yes, I know the dealer should pay for it, but that's the best thing to do for the car.
I'm at 104K miles and have done oil changes when the car tells me to. That's been every 10-12K miles. I've never gone 19K miles.

Oil was never change at the time I picked it up. It did show the car was in inspection after 1yr since delivery

Right? If done at a Mini dealership the key fob will tell any dealer what was done to it and when. I always got my oil changes yearly during my (so far) 10 years of Mini ownership because I only drive 8k miles/yr. So I bought this Coupe in 4/14 with like 100 miles on it, but the build date was 7/13 so they changed the oil 3 months after I bought it. There's no way they can say wait until 19k miles for an oil change. That's absurd.

Thanks for all the replys. I called the dealer again today and specifically spoke to a different service representative who politely listend to my story and looked the car up and it did in fact get an oil change at time of trade or at 8200mi on 11/2016 which corresponds with the 11/2017 date in the car. The guy I talked to yesterday acted like I was stupid and didn't even look up my car and told me 2 years 7mo or 19000mi is OK for the 1st oil change. I will not be talking to him again and only deal with Sarah who actually helped me today. I'll prob change it once in between dealer changes till 100k when my paid service is up.

MINI has new oil for some of the F56+ 2016+ MINIs so check if it asks for 0w20 or 0w30 from MINI, we have those also. You have a 2015 so my bet it states the 5w-30.
