F55/F56 Rear bike rack options for F56
Rear bike rack options for F56
Just picked up a 2017 F56 after trading in our Countryman. We thought it was odd that most models coming in do not have the option for the 'bike ready' bolt on the rear bumper. Seattle mini said only 12 units on the west coast even had this option. We didn't want to order, so, now we're searching for an aftermarket option. I was referred to one local shop who had no clue.
With that, does any one have suggestions for a bolt on or hitch (we'd have to install a custom hitch)? Bonus points if you know a Seattle area shop that could do this.
Thanks!

Trailer Hitch
I installed a MNI do More hitch and it allows use of any rear mount bike rack you want. Uses a 1 1/4" receiver and there are plenty of options. I haven't installed the wiring for a trailer yet.
Installation is straight forward until you have to cut the hole in the bumper. Mine is a cooper, but fits the S as well.
Your shop should be able to install the hitch.

Was on your same situation, I even purchased the Yakima Roof Rack and I didn't like it how noise it was and returned it. Also looked into rear racks and I didn't like that u need to cut the Bumper a little bit.
After further consideration and thinking I decided to buy SeaSucker Talon, my bike is super light ( carbon Fiber ) and I found that rack to work amazing and no issues so far

I've toyed around with the idea of a bike rack, but for the most part, and maybe because of the size of my road bike, I can remove the front wheel (easy enough now with a quick release), and fit the bike inside the MINI with the back seats down, and the front passenger seat moved up a bit.
There's plenty of room for the separate front wheel, a backpack, etc in the rear with the bike in there. It isn't nearly as convenient as a bike rack, but it works. Of course, if you have more than one bike to lug around, or another human with you, you're SOL.

On the up side though, hitch retrofits are doable through 3rd parties and I've met a couple Hardtop owners in the Seattle area who have had them installed. I know of one product, Torklift Central and I believe they have installers in the Seattle area and on the Eastside. Cost is about $300 if I remember right.
