Is it possible to remove a MINI brand roof rack with no risk of damage to the painted surface? I am in the process of attempting to purchase a MINI Clubman S with a MINI brand roof rack and I'm not sure I like it. I'd like to be able to remove it without having to repaint. Any idea how these are attached?

Yes, and it's much easier than installing it!

There are a few cut outs in the rain gutter where it mounts onto the car frame. MINI makes these little plastic clips that pop in once you remove the rack to cover up the gaps. I'll see if I can get a picture of my wife's since we had a rack on it before I got my Countryman.

 

To remove it, you just need the keys to the roof rack and a couple of allen wrenches. One is for the rack base and one is for loosening the bars.

Here are a couple pics of the rain gutter plugs. They're really not noticeable unless you're looking for them.

 

According to RealOEM, the rain gutter plugs come as a set with a removal tool. Part number is 82720426987 if the car doesn't come with the other roof rack miscellaneous bits.

So what if you purchased a Clubman without the keys supplied? Can I find keys somewhere for purchase if I have the numbers on the locks on the
racks?

 

have you tried the MINI dealer? If it is OEM, I think they can order a new set for you.
