Cooper S Clutch Decision - OEM?

I need a new clutch at 40k miles. I want a clutch that will last longer than 40k, I dont want a racing clutch. I dont take my car to the track and am easy on the clutch. I bought it used with 30k miles so not sure how the previous owner drove it. Cost= new dual mass fly wheel is around $670 and clutch $275 (OEM). I see a few other options out there that cost more but dont really see anyone else saying they last any longer? I've seen a few other posts saying they are not getting any longer life from the other manufacturers.....

Is there anything out there that will out LAST the OEM clutch and act as a daily driver?

Thanks!

I was in the same boat as you. Read all the issues about SPEC and Competition Clutch.

I have ended up getting a JCW Dual Mass Flywheel as it should help with upgrades and handle more torque than the Cooper S. I have sent an old clutch plate to KAVS Motorsport in Slovenia. Some R53 guys here in the UK were running that plate circa 260bhp for me with a stock feel so it sounds perfect for me.

Thats an interesting thought. Whats different on the JCW flywheel? Is it a direct bolt on replacement? Clutch plate a well?

Sounds like you want another stock clutch. All the options out there on the market are not a daily driver friendly ie. OS Giken.

If you check Real OEM part numbers for both the flywheel and cluth are diifferent for the JCW and MCS.

As the JCW has more Torque and more BHP it makes sense for similar money to go with the JCW items on a MCS. They are the same size so will fit straight on.

I have heard some people not think the JCW clutch is that good. There are failures reported and there are also failures reported for the MCS. I guess how aggressive you use the clutch is a factor and that is unknown.

I purchased the JCW Flywheel and Clutch kit as clutch cover and bearing are also needed, unless you find it isn't when you take yours apart but that is not the time to find out you need parts !!!!

Howvwer rather than use the stock JCW clutch plate I have sent a worn one to get recoated at KAV Motorsport. Many clutch manufacturers recondition teh clutch plates so put new lining on them. Reports on the KAV Motorsport (Slovenia) clutch lining are good circa 260bhp on a R53. Think mine is the 1st R56 he has done.

So I should be able to handle more power than a JCW clutch and still have stock feel. That is what I am after.

And when doing clutch that is the time to fit a LSD as labour costs are minimal whilst working in that area. I'm fitting a Quiafe.
