R50/53 Adding new toggle switch to existing bank
I may be getting some IPF front drivers for Christmas...is it possible to take my blank spot and put a MINI toggle in there to switch them? I saw the link that says you can break the individual toggles out (if someone has an extra bank for parting out)...
All R50/53 MINIs had the rear fog lights wired. But the turn on/off function is not active in the BC1 unless the car was ordered with rear fogs, or has had the function turned on by a dealership.
It really isn't that hard. heres a link to my toggle panel mod...https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...ggle+panel+mod
The one thing to be real careful with is the two little tabs on the switches that have the holes in them (see above thread). If you force them in the wrong way, you can break the tabs which pretty much renders them useless.

BC1?!? so if i wired in the switch could i just ask them to turn it on?
Presumeably, though in adding the toggle you don't do any wiring - you just make it so the toggle presses on the pad and informs the BC1 that you wish to turn on the fogs. And if you don't have the LED and the hollow toggle, you won't know if the fogs are on or not (unless you see the light in your rear view.
I'm wondering...what if I tapped into the driving light wire (coming from the toggle) and wired THAT to a relay to turn on my new foglights...anyone ever heard of this or tried it themselves? Am I about to roast my beloved Buddy? Feedback/advice would be very welcomed.
What driving light wire and what toggle are you referring to? Remember, the toggles in the car are spring loaded to center so they go off when you release them. BMW designed them to trigger the computer. I had Ian (GBMINI) modify his auto-up cicuit to allow a blank toggle (rear fogs) to drive an aftermarket oogah horn.
Please excuse my ignorance! So, this is what I'm thinking: I have a Bosch relay with 2 heavy current posts and 2 lighter duty posts. Run a fused heavy gauge wire from the battery to a "heavy" post. Run another heavy gauge wire from the other heavy post to my new Foglights. Ground the relay with one of the remaining posts. THEN, and here's my question; From the last post on the relay, connect to the "hot" wire of the existing factory driving lights...which would act like a "switch" (theoretically!!!) and trigger the relay to release power to the Fogs. Again, PLEASE excuse my ignorance...I'm not very familiar with relays and such.
If you have the factory driving lights (un-related to the toggle switch panel), you could do what you describe - be sure there's a reversed diode on the coil to prevent inductive switch-off spikes.
What is the proper part number for the fully outfitted (i.e. rear fogs) switch bank for an R52? Is the wiring for the rear fog already present? If not, has anyone simply wired the rear fog to the reverse lights to brighten them up?
This link has quite old part numbers now, but I think they're still valid:

A full toggle bank if you have DSC, front fogs, rear fogs, is 61 31 6 917 993.
As to whether or not the rear fogs are pre-wired ... probably, depending on the build date. Pre'05 MINIs always had that wiring (and the bulbs!)
