Sneak Peak...CF REAR "DIFFUSER".

just got in our first CF rear "diffuser". its a Hamman design but, greatly improved and 100% CF.
first layer of clearcoat

sideview, before clear

not adjusted right but, you get the drift.

yeah, its sittin low in that pic for sure. it wasnt adjusted at all, i just kinda bolted it up and let it sag. the brackets are adjustable so all i had to do was loosen the bolts and slide the piece up. i took it off to clearcoat it. i will post pics of the finished product.

the exhaust tips? magnaflo exhaust. standard size pipe but, the tips flang out like that.

Very cool Dopa! do you think it's gonna need a few more coats to protect it from road debris a bit more? Then again, you probably won't notice any dings to it unless it's a "showcar" and you have mirrors underneath...

yeah. i was thinking about that this morning actually. we put 4 layers of clear on it, hopefully, that will be all it needs.
i have a good amount of driving to do this weekend so, i will have a look at it on monday and drop a damage report. i think it should be ok where you can actually see it. i imagine there will be some sort of wear on the front part of it that faces the front of the car. we will see.

Looks nice, but that's not an R56 in the pic. Is it going to fit the R56 as well?

very true but the question would be the function behind this piece... im not too concern over downforce as a FF don't really need rear downforce as much as a RWD car... question is will it clean the air going under the car, so my question is will this clean the 'dirty boot' syndrome that is almost garenteed in any hatchback/wagon/SUV design

the dirty boot syndrome is actually caused by the fact the air drops off the roof of the car rather than getting carried down by a trunk. the induced turbulance of the air is such that it swirls behind the car in a pattern like the attached pic. it might help with redistributing the airflow after it has gone over the ground (maybe preventing it from carrrying dirt from the ground straight up), but the air under the car is not what causes the dirty boot effect

Can you show me a pic from the front? I'd like to see the front lip now that it's lowered.

Thanks!

Wow, that mesh looks killer! I kinda liked it better without the rear fogs though.

The mesh looks nice, but I'm curious about the purpose of the mesh on the diffuser. Wouldn't that just increase drag and reduce the effect of the diffuser?

I am sure that it may add some drag, but I did it to help fill in some of the dead space below the rear bumper cover. BTW: I also added some cool new chrome driving lights to the front and some of the mesh to the hood scoop. While the hood scoop is not a real functional part as it was in the R53, I blocked the actual opening in the hood scoop with clear plexi so as to not allow rain in on the electrical parts on top of the engine.

Looks like a very nice piece! If I were you I would have some 3M clear bra installed over it before install. That would take care of all wear problems.
