Repair Shop in SD?

Hi, I just joined the forum today to post this exact same query -- but I'm in San Diego so I'm looking for someplace a little farther south. I'd like to have a trusted independent repair shop in my Little Black Book for future reference. My '03 DS/B MCS is no longer under warranty and the Brecht dealership is about 50 miles from my house, arrgggg... (unbelievable that there isn't a Mini dealership anywhere in central San Diego).

Any recommendations? Thanks!

The furthest southern install shop that I know personally Is Johnny's Auto Clinic in San Pedro. He has a nice shop and does a hell of a good job. Sorry but I do not know of a shop in the immediate San Diego area.

There has been mention of a couple of shops in San Diego that work on Minis on the SCMM boards. I haven't been to either one so can't give any personal reccomendation.

One is San Diego Performance European (formerly Apex Engineering 858-751-0710. Website is www.apexengineering.com.

Another is La Jolla Independent at 5535 La Jolla Blvd (858-488-1555).

Anybody have any other information on San Diego shops, let us know.

Steve's is probably your best bet, but if you wanted to stay in Pasadena, there is a shop on Walnut east of Hill (North side of the street) that used to only specialize in Porsches that has been specializing in MINI upgrades.

That said...Steve is a MINI guru and is worth the drive. Also, the Armenian BBQ at the install parties is awesome.

You can also try EF1 Motorsports - they are located in Signal Hill (Long Beach). This is where Randy Webb did his last LA install.

2675 Dawson Avenue
Signall Hill, CA 90755
562-424-3378

ask for Fabrizio

I have to concur with Krassanova... steve is the best.. not only does he know what is going on and know exactly what to do.. he will explain absolutely everything to you and let you watch the install happen.. I did pulley, rear sways, oil catch can, and gauges.. took them about 6hrs to do all of it.. and gave me a great price for all of it.. plus he has a lot of other fabulous cars on the lot that you can look at while he is working on your car... he had a insanely well restored 67 or so Camaro SS that was just sick. I live in Upland and drove all the way there because no one touches the mini but the best.. and steve is the best.

I've had work done at both Steve's and EF1. Both are good shops, Steve and Fabrizio are total car guys. Actually, both guys have very similar personalities. Not that I'm complaining but Steve doesn't do all the work at his shop. He has a number of guys working for him. The last time I was at EF1 (old location) Fabrizio was doing the work himself. The down side to that is that you got to get in line for work to be done. Both shops are much better alternatives to the steallerships IMHO.

nice - will try you next. my car has a serious lag, *really* bad, not just the standard "slow off the line" issue. it has 74K now and i have no idea what should be serviced.

Does anyone know of a good MINI auto shop in the Orange County area?

I'm looking to possibly get a rear sway bar installed.

If you're located in south OC...then I highly recommend,
Clark's House of Suspension
26901 Vista Terrace, Lake Forest, CA 92630
(949) 768-6261

You do have to setup an appointment. Highly regarded for your suspension needs. You can read feedback on the SCMM message board.
