Yea, duh, sorry about that, those are toe.

.9 negative camber front, .5 negative camber rear, just about zero front and rear toe. I like to zero the toe out for starters and then go from there.

Ahh, sweet! Sounds like its going to be very quick and a bit lighter as well.

wheel options for G-stock??

What are you doing for rims for G-stock?

What options are there and what are the lightest of the new 16" rims vs the older MINI rims in the same size?

Rota slipstreams can come in nearly stock 16x6.5 and +45 offset but they would be special order.

When ordering a new MCS what rims do you suggest for G-stock?

I would suggest you save your money and not buy the factory optional rims. Just get a 16 inch that you like (I like the bridgespokes) and spend your money on either lightweight 16x6.5 Rotas or something in a 17x7.

I want 17" rims for daily driving but don't like the stock options. I am thinking of getting 16" S-winders and using them for autocross with new tires and buying new 17" for daily use - probably Flik Wasp. The S-winders are rumored to be 18lbs which is not the lightest. This seems to be the best option for buying just one set of rims but how much will this affect performance compared with the lightest wheels?

For autocross you really want the lightest possible stock MINI rim that is legal for your class.

For H-Stock MC it would be either 15x5.5 or 16x6.5 rims. Holeys are 15" and 12 pounds each, nothing better than that so far. 16x6.5 rims would be similar to that for any G-stock MCS.

For G-stock MCS you can use 16x6.5 or 17x7 with offsets close to stock as possible or within 0.25" plus or minus.

Right now for 16x6.5 MINI stock rims-
R94 Bridge-spoke ET48 20.9lb
R102 S-winder ET48 22.0lb (Not 18 pounds!)
R103 5-spoke Blaster ET48 18.9lb

And the older rims are-
R83 5-star ET50 20.1lb
R84 X-lite (V-spoke) ET50 17.6lb
R92 7-spoke Fin ET48 19.0lb
optional-
R87 double-spoke ET45 16.5lb (special order)

The lightest of the new 15" rims is-
R96 Delta-spoke ET45 13.8lb

The lightest recent 17" rim is-
R91 5-spoke Bullet ET48 20.6lb
Everything else is about 22 pounds each or more.

I have a set of Rota Slipstreams 16x6.5 with ET45 and MINI hub bore that weigh 13.3 pounds each on a digital bath scale. No centercap or valve.

Lets make SSR bring the Comp R back in the MINI stock size.
Email Alex@tirerack.com and tell him.

I got the 18lbs weight from this thread https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...ad.php?t=86106 where inomis weighed his wheels with tires and subtracted the tire weight that Tirerack publishes. This is a different result from the 22lbs on mini2 at http://www.mini2.com/forum/faq.php?f...heel_tire_tech

Not sure where Mini2 got its data - I have not seen S-winder weight anywhere else. This is heavier than any other 16" wheel so Mini2 may be wrong.

OK, we are going to need some help to get an accurate weight for the unmounted rim. Tirerack tire weights are based on the manufacturer's data and not on real numbers from actual tires.

18 pounds would be good, 22 a bit heavy.

Hey Per,
Great article about your new Mini in the new GRM. But you never mentioned if the old shocks will fit the new car? (crossing my fingers)

They fit, but Koni is developing new stampings for the new car. Different perch diamers on the front and a new bracket for a wire on the rear.

Not sure about free length of shock shaft either.

Can you give more detail about "they fit"? Did you move your Koni's on to the new car and "they fit"? That would be good news.

But yeah, someone really needs to check the free length, etc.... Thanks Per!

I know that a racer bought Jack Burns's FSDs and bolted them on an 07 without any issues.

SP/ST etc should be gtg to put older coilovers on.

Cool! So it sounds like I could send the Leda's off (once they are back in business) and have them slightly modified to match the new line brakets. I'm hoping that the spring seats are the same along with the free length.

This would make a switch to an '07 car MUCH cheaper. The SSR wheels should swap okay.....worst case, I'll have to drill the holes slightly larger.

Thanks again Per.

Per

Does your 07 have throttle cutoff with braking? I test drove an 07 MCS yesterday and it cutoff throttle completely with any amount of braking, even with the DSC off. I then drove an 07 MC and it had no throttle cutoff.

Please tell me yours doesn't have cutoff. :-) I am hoping an ASC equipped 07 MCS won't have cutoff since I LFB. Not that I am getting one this year, but, possibly down the road in 08, maybe an 08 JCW for STX.

Thats great news, if so, my KW Competition 2-ways won't be obsolete.

I haven't noticed it. I have noticed that if you turn the ASC off and start a run, if you spin out (or get pretty darn sideways), it'll come back on. Since that run is blown anyway....

This is a little concerning...

I'll be running on the 14th so we'll see if this is a consistent problem.

Do you have issue with it re-engaging on a hard launch?

BTW- I haven't noticed any throttle cut off upon braking with the ASC off (which is the only way I drive). I'll have to toy with it a bit more to see if I can make it happen. Technically, with the ASC on one should get throttle cut off upon locking up I believe. DSC always seems to be more problematic than ASC in the past. More complex I guess.

Kelly

Konis are almost all on (waiting for rear washer from Helix) and I installed a hitch from www.minidomore.com on Saturday. I've got some track time on Wed. morning to iron out the Koni settings.

Thats great, let us know how you like them!! I really think the shocks/struts are going to help a ton. I sure wish I could do the Minidomore hitch, but, I have the Hypersport package which doesn't allow for a center exiting hitch. :-(

Um, yea, very nice. the car doesn't do as much of that squatting and diving like it did before. Pic of Helix bushing is now on our website.

Excellent news! I am wondering if this will help wheelspin a bit since it won't be squatting during acceleration while coming out of corners.

How badly does it affect the ride on the street?

I'm really enjoying the softness of every day driving, and, the wifey claims that I ruin every car I get by making it rough to ride in on the street and so loud that it is annoying. lol She really hated the JCW on Moton's with the Supertrapp and headers. lol So far, she likes the Quicksilver exhaust, now I just need to get by the shocks/struts and I am home free. ;-)

Oh, I have my Helix bushings on the way as well, now, just need to get my hands on some DA Koni's. ;-)
