SEB Letters GS vs DS for 05 MCS!!!!
Write them now at SEB@scca.com
Here is some extremely strong data that suggests that the 05 MCS belongs in GS.
For 2004 and 2005 there was only 1 dry day at the national championships so we will compared this data for each of the dry days for the given year.
For 2004, top GS time was 53.440 which was a Celica vs 52.684 for a differece of .856 between the two top times in class.
For 2005, the top GS time was 55.555 which was an 05 MCS vs 54.689 for DS for a difference of .866 between the two top times in class.
So, the data clearly indicates that the 05 MCS belongs in GS with the Celica, and, actually, although the margin was only 0.010 the Celica was closer in 2004 to DS than the 05 MCS was to DS in 2005!

The impression I got from the "Town Hall Meeting" is that by 2007 all MINI Cooper S's will be DS cars. The SEB apparently refuses to consider the '06 MINI Cooper S John Cooper Works for seperate classification from the MINI S, citing the "best of breed" philosophy and the fact that the JCW is not a seperate model, but a line-item option package. They will be making their decision (or should I say have already made their decison) based not just on the demonstrated performance potential exhibited this year by the '05 Cooper S but on the estimated performance potential (based on the technical specifications) of the '06 Cooper S Works. They outright said that they don't want the MINIs to be in any more than 2 stock classes and suggested that the only reason the '02-04's will stay in GS next year is that they've missed the deadline to put a proposal to move them out for member comment. Expect that proposal, effective Jan 1 '07, to be on the table early next year.
