What year/options to start D stock?

I'm looking to move from A stock to D stock and run a MCS. I was all set to pickup an '05 MCS, but then I got to reading the threads coming out of Nationals and the JCW options being port installed. So, I'm trying to track down what year/options to look for.

Thanks in advance!

The ideal '05 would be one with the factory LSD and without the heavy glass roof. I understand that this is a very rare spec.. The JCW parts (engine kit, brakes, suspension) are not allowed in any stock class for an '05. '06 cars with the engine kit, brakes, and 17" wheels can run in CS.

That's what I was thinking, but OasisT ran a JCW stg1 on his '08 in DS. And here is his post in another thread. This is where the confusion is coming from.

"07+ had the JCW tuning kit and suspension as a line item option. MiniUSA had the ability to port(Mini refers to their port as the VDC) install these options, which, makes them legal for us in D-Stock as of the rule change back in 2008 if I remember. I have the documentation that states the list of port installed items from MiniUSA. Message me here or on my Facebook page on my signature on this post and I'll send you a copy of the letter. There are several port items, such as cross drilled rotors, JCW rear spoiler, etc...."

07+ has port installed JCW line item options that are stock class legal since the SCCA legalized port items a couple years ago. The JCW line item options you want are the JCW Tuning kit and the JCW suspension. You definitely want a 2007-09 R56, non-sunroof, with the real LSD(I heard some 2010's had a real LSD before they went to electronic), the electronic is not as good. The 07 has throttle cut-off with brake application, so, if you left foot brake, the 07 might bother you(cuts off after about 1-2 seconds worth of brake). My 08 doesn't cut out when LFB. Thats pretty much it for an R56.

Here is the issue, the JCW will likely be dropped into DS in 2012. Will it be as good with the JCW suspension and electronic LSD(never came with the real LSD)? Also, I would bet the 2012 Coupe will also be dropped into DS and will likely have the same port items. Its said to be 55lbs heavier but will have a lower center of gravity.... Which one of the 3 will be best? Who knows, only one way to find out, and, it costs a crap load to do that. I'll likely stick with my Mini for 2012 but will likely be building some sort of beastly machine for 2012 as well. haha

Feel free to email me any questions while searching for your Mini. ;-)

I might be bailing on the R56 to build a proper hardtop R53 w/ LSD like Salem mentioned.

Maybe the new Justa Coupe for Hstock?
