new v710 size 215/45r16 =bad

Kumho V710 215/45r16
Do not get these unless you have camber plates. They have square shoulders and are meant for cars with camber.
Previously I had run 215/40r16 in the v710 (round shoulders) and they were great, although quite a bit shorter than stock. I figured the bigger diameter of the 45 would give better top end and less wheel spin (R56). Big mistake: they wore very unevenly compared to the 40 series and were corded after only 8 events. They also felt like crap for the 1st couple events until the square shoulders rouned off. I did get less wheelspin on corner exit and hit the rev limiter less often, but the trade off was definitely not worth it. Also they are heavier than the 40r16.

I was kinda wondering about the squared shoulders. I thought they might have been for more stock class cars with less camber. Sucks that you had to go through that learning experience, but thanks for the info.

8 events?? From your post I'm assuming you're running stock camber and they corded on the outside?

I just finished my second full season on the 215/40 V710s. One tire is showing patches of a suspicious cordy layer underneath, but they wore phenomenally even - with a buncha (-2.3) camber.

That's right, stock camber and corded on the outside. Yeah the 215/40 size last way longer. The 215/45 ones might work okay with camber plates, but I was so dissapointed I would not try them again even if I had -3° camber. Well... maybe if they were 1/2 price.

After almost a full season my 215/40 had barely reached the wear bars. I'd say those were realty good. Was running ~2.5 camber. I like the lower profile of the 40s over the 45s anyway.

edit

aww crud.. great way to pay attention to the last post date.. I've created a zombie.
