A quick "can I" question

I've been autocrossing with the SCCA for 12 years so I know how "funny" their rules can be, but, can I change the "Chevy SSR" grill in my Cooper to the black mesh grill and stay in H Stock?

I'm pretty sure they won't mind. Where do you do auto-x around here?

I run with the TRSCCA, Tennessee Region SCCA. We run at the Nashville Superspeedway, Sometimes we set up an autocross course on their infield road course, but most are in the parking lot out front. (TRSCCA.COM for a schedule)
I don't think any local folks would mind, but I may want to go to some regional/divisional events and some of those folk are sticklers for the letter of the rule, the must have OE shift **** in stock class, but can replace shifter it is on to an after market short shifter is okay rule comes to mind.

well, I'd refer them to rule 13.2 if they complain:

13.2 BODYWORK
A. Accessories, gauges, indicators, lights and other appearance,
comfort and convenience modifications which have no effect on
performance and/or handling and do not materially reduce the
weight of the car are permitted.

The only complaint I could see them having would be the weight, considering that rule. I don't imagine the weight difference is appreciable.

I am aware of that rule, but the comfort and convenience part may be open to interpretation where the grill is involved, I was hoping someone had already had that conversation with the protest steward somewhere.

I have thought about changing it, and taking the factory chrome grill with me to regional/divisionals and change it back if any one complains.

MoxieMini,

I think I saw you today on the Parkway, I wish I could have gotten my Cooper in that shade of red. Looks nice.

It falls under appearance. If the weight is approximately the same, and there is no performance benefit (better aero, better cooling) no one will have a problem with it.

Which parkway? The Natcher?

I may have to look into getting out a TRSCCA event some time.

I hadn't thought about that, it probably would improve cooling (getting all those chrome bars out of the way), yet another reason. It is part of the Aero package, if they are stock legal. Kinda gets confusing what it factory installed and what is dealer installed. I wouldn't think the weight difference would be more than a few onces, so maybe no one would mind enough to protest it.

Yes, sometime late in the afternoon, you were headed south, right?

We are having an event this weekend, and I've always driven RWD cars at autocrosses, so watching me on the steep learning curve, learning a FWD car is kinda funny. I pull to the line, the starter says "GO", I realize I haven't pressed any buttons, and I franticly start hitting the Sport and DSC buttons, the starter just shakes his head, fun stuff.
