Solo R56 G-stock, sport pack mandatory?
R56 G-stock, sport pack mandatory?
Is sport pack mandatory for a competitive G-stock car on the R56 generation? Mainly what are the differences in spring rates on sport and non sport and sway bar size differences? I know the LSD is a must.
Also can you run either 16 or 17" wheels?

You want the sport suspension and LSD, everything else is fluff.
It seems like it is only stiffer sway bars. I like the balance of my car with the sport suspension.
Yes you can run either size wheel, but not mix and match. (no 17 fronts with 16 rears)

Doesn't the S come w/sport suspension by default?
edit:
Wow I just checked, and it's not STD anymore, at least according to the configurator...
It does say the SS gives you larger swaybars, so you'll probably need the option to be "competitive" since you can't change the rear in GS. It doesn't mention anything about the springs, so I assume they are the same.

Too pricey, rather buy a new car nicely optioned new 08' for 25'ish. Looking for sport, convenience, HID, LSD, rooster red trim. Your car is very well set up though and we're not sure how serious we are in GS so it's probably not the right car for us. It's a daily driver first and an occasional auto-x car second. We also have a SS Elise, ES Miata and AS S2000 to autocross.
Alternatively we may just skip the sport suspension and get a set of KW coilovers, camber plates to make the car more fun to drive at other local club events and not kill front tires constantly.

Not the hole package
I haven't put the whole sport package on either of mine. I put the sport suspension on the '08 with the LSD didn't need the rest of the package on either car and really didn't want 17" wheels that I wouldn't use. I found while test driving the '08 that the SS made the car feel much more balanced on the street.
I was reading some specs online and it seems like the sport suspension is just thicker sway bars, is this true? It doesn't really make sense to call it a sport suspension if you don't even change the springs/shocks from the base model. What's the deal?

I spoke with an MA & a few other tech personnel at a dealer and they said the SS was only swaybars. I know I would have gotten it had I gone forward with the car, it would have been worth that $500 IMO.
