2008 STS2 = 2009 STS
2008 STS = 2009 ST

Not my idea but it is true.

It was no fun having to write STS2L for every run on the log sheets at Nationals for the "Ladies" class. At least it is shortened a bit now.

Make a stamp?

Or a sticker.

STSL is still pretty long.

Big news for MINI autocrossers!

The SCCA is considering moving the feather light Honda Civic Si from ST to STS.

http://cms.scca.com/documents/Fastra...k-feb-solo.pdf

Since the ST Civics run essentially indentical times to STS CRXs and Miatas, they are are thinking about bumping them to STS. This means more modern cars that have the weight penalty of airbags and other safety equipment will be more competitive in ST. This is aimed squarely at the MINI Cooper, Acura RSX, Scion tC, Toyota Corolla, Mazda 2, Honda Fit, Toyota Yaris et. al. If you are tired of the spec Civic class that ST has become, put in your 2 cents at www.sebscca.com.

From my experiences, I think the MINI would make a killer ST car!

That will help me locally.. Usually only 5-8 cars in ST but that civic was 5th at nationals last year..
Next is a Mazda 3 stock other then a sway bar, and CAI, cat back..
Claims to be putting over 160 Hp to the ground.. ( won't say exactly ) Got me by 47 HP at the very least and maybe more...
I know it's not about HP but if we are equal drivers, even if the MINI is alittle better car it's hard to make it up...

Course layout makes a big difference.. I have out run my "S" friends on a tight course where they couldn't use their HP advantage..

This makes for good discussion. Here is the list for the ST "new" class. What does everyone think will be the car to have and why?

Looking at the MINI in ST trim, I think you can get down to around the 2300 lb range and about 115 whp or 125-130 hp at the crank.

STREET TOURING
- The STAC has provided the following proposed Appendix A detailed listings, which are intended to accompany its previously published (February) proposed category rules re-organization. As called out in Appendix A, only cars which are specifically classed are eligible for competition at National Tours, Divisionals, and the National Championships. Competitors currently competing in a car that is covered by an "NOC" classing are advised to request specific classing in order to maintain eligibility. Specific class names are still under discussion by the STAC. Change the Appendix A listings under STREET TOURING CATEGORY to read as follows:

ST "New"
Only cars listed below are eligible:
MINI Cooper (non-S)
Mazda 3
Acura RSX
Toyota Corolla (98-2011)
Scion tC, xA, xB
Mazda 2
Honda Fit
Ford Fiesta
Toyota Yaris
VW Golf 2.5
Honda CR-Z
Honda Civic (2001-2011)(non-Si)

I guess if you fully modify any of them could be a good car in class. I still give the advantage to the civic, just becasue it is a tried and tested car with lots of knowledge, info, parts etc. out there....

Yeah the setup worked. We were just a tick off Andy Hollis in the results and faster in the challenge I was told?

All that aside the car is competitive in STF. I encourage everyone to run there

So with wheels, tires, rear bar and the Vorshlag camber plates the car was VERY quick and easy to drive

Jason it's not enough. It's got 2.9 and 2.6 now. It needs about 3.3-3.5 on stock struts and springs I think.

With good coilovers (AST 4150s I hope). I believe rialing it back in the mid 2 degree range will be good.

I'm just trying to get even tire wear...as it is now there is too much outside edge wear still.

Have you lowered it much? Doesn't sound like you did if you are only getting 2.9 max.

Is there an AST 5100 coilover set for the R50 or are you using the one for the R53?
http://www.vorshlag.com/product_info...roducts_id=309

Before you change the front springs you can-
Make more adjustments to your front shocks and rear shocks (rebound only for the 5100). In general you want a moderately stiff setting in the front and very stiff setting in the rear. So on a scale from one to 10 with 1 being stiffest setting you can try 5 or 6 in front and 2-3 in back then adjust from there.

You should check your full alignment settings.
Front toe about 1/16 inch toe out for faster turning response
Front camber - max out for negative camber- looks OK so far, but if you can get more negative then good
Rear toe zero or slight toe in about 1/8 inch
Rear camber does not need to be so negative- try less about -1.5 to -1.7 degrees. More negative camber in back can lead to more oversteer.

Adjust your rear swaybar to allow for neutral steering - I would expect the softest setting.

You can also stagger your wheels and go with 16x8 wheels in front like
949racing 6UL wheels-
http://949racing.com/15x8-6ul-wheels.aspx

What air filter are you using? Make sure it is clean
What ECU map?
Racing harnesses? Schroth quickfit is good

Im using the same shocks for the r53. Ive already tried stiffer on the shocks but it really needs front spring because the shock cannot compensate for that much. The reason for the negitive rear camber is so with the rear bar set on full stiff like it is it will allow for a certain amount of slip angle but will then not get too far out so that is is easily recoverable. The ST civics use the same kind of logic. Additionally the 8" wheels are not allowed because the class limit is a 7.5" wheel. Still in the process of looking for a cold air intake and ECU. The main reason i posted was to get some of the information out there to try to help with the development of the mini in stf.

OK on the wheel width limit.

As long as you can control the oversteer given your rear camber and stiff rear bar that's fine.

For ECU MAP you might inquire with Way about this-
http://www.waymotorworks.com/bytetro...uning-kit.html
and
http://www.*********************/for...hp/t-5555.html

You can ask him about intakes and about stiffer front springs.
