When will class decision be made?

When is SCCA expected to make the final decision on whether all MCS get switched to D?

Class-change decisions are usually made on the Solo Events Board's first conference call following Nationals, but since Nats are the last week in Sept that call won't happen until mid-October (the various Advisory committees will have conference calls first in early Oct, make their recommendations to the SEB, then the SEB makes the final decisions).

Everything will be published online in FasTrack on the SCCA website, possibly before the end of October but more likely the first week or so of November.

Be careful what you wish for....

It's the only really good data point (IMO) we have this year so far, but defending DS champ Bartek Barowski (Integra Type R) whacked Craig, Greg, and me pretty good at the Milwaukee Tour back in July. Go back and look at the times...Bart's 3rd run Sunday was done on corded front tires. Good car, good driver.

You might want to temper that enthusiasm until we see what happens in Topeka.

curious to see how krikelmeyer in the spec-v does. that would be good argument for leaving GS alone.

Any news yet on the class decision - less than 7 weeks to 2008!

Actually, the response I got from Doug Gill was that there was not likley to be any chnages in the classign for the MCS for 2008.
I was impressed with the speed of Doug's response, as he got back to me within 3 days of me asking the question.

I thought that this was common knowledge and I had simply missed it, so I did not post this up. I would have to say that this is some pretty good news, that they have decided for the moment that there is a distinct speed difference between the current DS and GS cars.

Doug is trying really hard to cut down the time between receipt of member inquiries and replies from the SCCA office. The Board of Directors has authorized Doug to hire an assistant, but I don't know if that's actually happened yet. Typically his correspondence gets backlogged in Sept/Oct while he's working at Solo Nationals and then the Runoffs, so the fact that you got a prompt reply must mean he's caught back up.

That said, Doug is SCCA Competition Manager and not an SEB member (although he has input into the SEB's decision-making process) so I think he may have slipped in letting that info out. No one with knowledge of SEB decisions such as this is supposed to reveal or discuss them until they're officially published in FasTrack, although it's not a hanging offense.

I would expect the Dec issue of FasTrack to be up on the SCCA website by the end of next week at the latest.

Ok, so I am a little confused. There has been a big deal made about whether or not the MCS moves to DS or not. It looks like it is not going to move, but from what I have found online, the GS PAX is going to be harder for GS than it is for DS.

Does this make ANY sense?

PAX/RTP is independent of the SCCA, it is essentially the opinion of one person. He thinks 07 MCS are faster than anything in DS

Good news for larger clubs / regionals / nationals but bad news for the small clubs that just lump everyone together and use PAX to decide the winners.

I'm sure that someone makes rules for your region (we had our rules meeting last night) Pax/RTP is adopted by the region as an index but if it is clearly wrong, it should be able to be adjusted by the region.

there were similar concerns during the 2005 season when the GS index was too low based on the improved performance of the lsd equiped MCS.

Latest FasTrack indicates that another proposal to move the Cooper S to DS presumably for 2009 has been rejected.

Hi All - although the MCS staying in GS is a nice thing right now, what do you feel about the proposed move of the Speed3 to GS? Not sure about the other regions, but here in the NER, or resident Speed3 in DS has far outpaced the GS field all year.

Glad to hear... but with the indexes being similar it seems like no big deal when looking at overall results. I plan to take some appropriate steps to gain any advantage possible with car set up in the off season!
